Wrist/Sleeve Computer

I'm interested in making an arm-mounted computer, since I do a lot of tasks that are infinitely more suited to a full Linux computing environment (server administration, interfacing directly with hardware devices like networking equipment, etc) than a mobile phone can provide, but I also want a device that I don't have to carry in my hands like a laptop or tablet. I've done a bit of research on how to best put this thing together, and I think the best way to go about it would be mounting a raspberry pi, along with its various peripherals, onto a long sleeved glove. I've so far put together a list on for parts that I'd need to put this together: http://pastebin.com/brXnW7UY (cont)

Can you make this? A 18 year old made it on his free-time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_kfUVZdTkU

Not sure if this is board-appropriate, but I think it's pretty close

I'm moving to a room in a house where the rooms don't really have locks and the house tends to be open because people are going in and out all the time, since there's a lot of people in there. So, I'm considering how I might safely store my few valuable possessions. (bank stuff, smallish laptop, social security cards, checks). I'm by no means in a high-danger area, but I figure I shouldn't be naive. My instinct is to just find a sturdy metal locking box and put a padlock on it. Maybe chain it to something that isn't going to get out of the room easily, like the frame of the bed or a pipe. Any suggestions?

Sci-fi props: Hal9000

How about we cut the crap and get to the real stuff, amirite? I wanna make like 10 hal9000s and place them around the house. I'm too lazy for voiceboxes and electrics, meh maybe a few LEDs here and there. Any tips? I gotta find atleast 13 red dome lenses, 10 for main use, atleast 3 for back up. What do you think of the led gear, what cheap and easy? And similar sci-fi props welcomed

Beloved friends, I'm thinking of building a canoe. Thing is, I don't have blueprints of it and I was wondering if one of you has some online resources with "good" instructions and blueprints. Thanks.

On a scale from 1 to MacGyver, how hard would it be for one to build a complete Le Mans prototype, or another car with similar performances?

How to charge a 27DC battery?

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey DIY guys Going through the junk yard at my camp and found a 27dc marine everstart battery of all things. Battery looks in decent condition with no breaks or leaks, but before I made a decision on it, I was wondering if it could be restored, or hopefully it just needs a recharge Which brings me to my point, How does one charge this? And what's more, I thought all lead acid batteries were 12 volts, is this 27 volts DC? p.s. What's with the double terminals on top for each side?

Hi /diy/, I'm working on building a desk right now. I'm looking for the best way to run a wire through the foot of the desk. Would it be best to hollow a hole through the desk and just run the wire through, or is there a better way to do this?

Hey /diy/, I need some help: My girlfriend has a Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine and the LED light bracket that illuminates the tub has rusted and split into 3 pieces, leaving the light to just dangle. I think I found the replacement part, but it's $127 and we just don't have that type of money at the moment. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? We were going to use the warranty to cover this, but surprise, it went out of warranty 4 months ago. Much appreciated and thanks in advance.

I've started working on a pair of speakers for my dads computer after he saw the ones I made for myself, but I need your help with something. When I plug it into the usb port, there is a loud and annoying buzzing sound coming out of the speakers, I'm assuming it's because I'm using a class D amplifier and the computer has poor ripple filtering. So the question is, how do I go about filtering ripple at 5v. It needs to be small enough to fit into the speaker. I have access to dead computer power supplies, can I use parts from those?

Tried asking this on /k/ and got some decent answers, but I think this may be a better place to ask. /k/ thread here >>>/k/26632450 [I am not asking how to build a weapon, pls no ban] Machinist here, recently my mothers side of the family took my pregnant wife, and 3 year old son and I into their home and took care of us after our house burned down and we lost nearly everything. I will spare you all the details but I want to build them all 1911s as a token of my gratitude. I will be building them all off 80% frames/recievers, my uncle we be getting an oldschool 1911A1 style, my cousin will be getting a tactical model with a rail, ambi safety extended beavertail, commander hammer, threaded barrel, trijicon night sights, all the bells and whistles, and my Aunt will be getting a stainless steel 1911 polished to a mirror finish, possibly chromed or nickel plated, with ivory or mother of pearl. All of this I know how to do just fine, as I have been building 1911s and AKs for awhile now, and assembling ARs. Anyway, my question lies in the sights. I would like the rear sights to be sapphires, and the front sight to be a ruby. After searching online, I have been unable to find a jeweler or firearms manufacturer that supplies such a part. Im sure I could reach out and have some made, but I want the gun to be practical and functional. I dont want the gemstones flying out of their setting the first time the gun is fired, and I know how fragile jewelry can be. Do any of you know of any company that manufacturers something like gemstone sights?

shitty in debt college student here trying find the cheapest way to go about building a home after college that is cheaper, and greener on the bills, so im thinking of going the container route being only 2-3 grand a pop and maybe stacking 2 together or maybe just a smaller one on top. fuck "tiny" houses though i need some bigger. do you think it would be better to try and build it myself or get a crew to come in. buying used storage container over new? do you think i would have to deal with some bullshit to bull this and have people call it an eye sore/ building code issues? what are your thoughts.

Let's give this a go, since it involves pretty much every aspect of /diy/, or at least the possibility is there. >Brief A self contained, fully self-sustainable, modular home which can be lifted/moved into position by a truck, helicopter or boat (and unloaded via a small crane). The home must require no additional service connections but should be able to accept service connections (i.e. electricity, water) if they exist at the site. The home must be able to exist in any of the Earth's climates, with little to modification. The home should also be able to withstand harsh environments and treatment (e.g. bone rattling journeys offroad to it's place of installation) >Pre-requisites The home must fully fit into pic related. This is a ISO container rack (basically a shipping container without the container). What goes into the rack is unlimited. This means that the usual shit associated with these threads (e.g. shipping containers are shit for homes) will be negated.

Soldering is the least fucken fun craft I've ever fucken done jesus christ nothing makes fucking sense when you solder, shit gets oxidized within 5seconds, wires solder only when they feel like it, fucken fuck shit worst fucken shit ever! Tried replacing the CCFL bulbs of my brothers old monitor, well soldering new bulbs into the wire turned out to be as hard as calculus FUCK I failed not because I wasn't doing it, but because I set the fucken shit down for one second and it burned the plastic pin and it obviously won't plug into its circuit board port FUCK! So pissed, wasted 20 bucks on 5 fucken bulbs which are useless to me now since everything is LED. FUCK.
