Is there a way to get rid of the grime (calcium?) build up on my night guard? I've tried lemon juice and Polident retainer cleaner, but they don't seem to work.

Sup /diy/. I'm curious how you guys sharpen and polish your blades. I'm still a novice working with knives (my expertise is in making chainmail armor and jewelry.) I used a 1000/3000 grit Japanese waterstone to sharpen this Buck and my old leather belt to strop/remove the burrs. I used a cheap buffing wheel attachment for my drill (with white compound) to create the mirror shine. I did the typical cycle through sandpaper grits before that to get out the scratches. The blade can now easily shave hair on my arm but I'm still not satisfied with the edge and would like some advice from those more experienced.

Wimax modem modding?

I have one of the first gen wimax modems from clear, pic related. They have since stopped offering service on their devices but it still takes you to wallgarden when you connect and try to goto any page. Everything i could find is from 2013 and its just about the vpn bypass. Is there any thing i can do with it or is it compleatly useless?

Amateur wood worker here, Any tips on how to make identical, consistent miter cuts? Trying to make identical picture frames, but the cuts always have some variation. Thanks guys, been scratching my head on this.

DIY laptop charging cart

Hello y'all, I need to charge and store a bunch of laptops. The cart we have switches power from one row of laptops to the other every 4 hours. When I build one, I was wondering whether it's better to have it switch like that, or whether the laptops should just continuously get power. Thanks.

anyone here built a fireworks controller before?

so after seeing this me and my father are determined to make something similar, i've got lots of experience with coding (its my day job) and basic EE (i built a basic RFID door system with maglocks and a couple relays then a shift register to do more doors) Does anyone have tips or advice for home made pyro? Mainly with creating precision fuses only pyro experience i have is making super basic cremora fireballs (blackpowder + coffee creamer) i plan on using this for "mortar cakes" along with possibly a bunch of mini switches for small things like bottle rockets or cremoras, or single mortars Things i've already planned: key switch to arm system will discount power and ground on safe two arduinos with ethernet shields, one in power box, one in control box run only 2 cat5 cables rather than this guys setup (one for data, one for power, with a battery in the main control box for a quick emergency disconnect) mosfets instead of relays in powerbox to prevent vibrations triggering other pyro displays ability to program delays from control box what kind of power supply am i going to need for constant performance? (like voltages and such) has anyone else here built something similar? would there be a better microcontroller to use? haven't used my arduino in a couple years, wouldn't mind learning a new one.

So I'm making some shirts for free at a punk show and I'm wondering what kind of spray paint would be good in this situation.

Electric skateboard

I'm building an electric skateboard. and the last part I need is the deck. I want something compact (see pic) so I was wondering if using a skateboard deck and trimming the edges would be a good way to go? I'm using longboard trucks so might need risers but otherwise would there be any issues?

wind generator

hi guise i was building a savonius generator with an corded drill which works at 220v / 500w i just brought the rectificator bridges and i was wondering if i could use some 16v 4700uf capacitors before sending it to the charge controller. should i use those? bridges support up to 1000v halp

I'm making some homemade wine to later turn into liquor. I haven't made wine since I was about 16 so I can't remember a lot. I used >honey >sugar >frozen lemonade concentrate >bakers yeast I made sure the yeast was active and so far so good. The balloon inflated. But how long until it's finished making alcohol? I really can't remember. After its finished I'm going to distill it, I heard distilling wine leaves a nice flavor in the liquor? Is that true or should have I just used sugar/yeast and that's it?

Trying to build a cheap, yet effective entry/mid level mlg pro desktop computer. The current configuration I'm considering is: -AMD FX-8350 BE -BIOSTAR TA970 -MSI n750ti -Rosewill ARC-750 -Ripjaw 2x2gb 1600 Super poorfag status, so having the total build as cheap as possible is a bonus. My only real goal was to make something cheap that could compete with a unit equipped with a i7 4790 nonk, and gtx 750 in terms of gaming performance for mid range games.

kids control board.

I made this for my kid. Some switches just turn simple LEDs on she pretends it's a spaceship. She's 8. She wants to build a robot but I am not good at building electrical shit. Anyine do something like this for their kid, brother and or sister or whatever? Any pointers on how to make it look like it wasn't just dug out of a radio shack trashcan?

Medium Grade Chisels + Tools Thread

6 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Sup diy, I'm in the market for some decent upper-medium grade bevel-edged chisels (Ashley Iles, Stanley SW, TraditionalWoodworker, Hirsch, Two Cherries, etc) and I'm at a bit of an impasse. All of the above require some type of tuning which I'm cool with, but I'm not sure whether to go with a socket or a tang/hooped chisel. If possible, I'd like an imperial sized set, but if the stanley/ai/tw are dogshit, I'm open to getting metric. I've also used a 20mm two cherries chisel to cut some basic dovetails and I felt like the balance was too handle-heavy for vertical chopping. I readily admit I'm a noob however, so anyone with more experience is more than welcome to convince me otherwise. I have small hands for a guy if that helps. tl;dr: >need chisels >tang/socket? >medium price (160-220 for a set) >small hands >profit??

I'm making a ducted fan aircraft. The fan is fixed pitch therefore I have two options for varying the thrust a) use the nitro engine throttle or b) keep the engine at full throttle and use guide vanes to direct thrust away or towards the ground. b is obviously inefficient but the response time would be good. What I need the most is response times so is the response time of a nitro engine throttle bad enough to make the inefficiency of method b worth it?

Arduino thread? Arduino Thread. >> ITT >> post your projects >> post your questions (if any) >> post ideas So I am working on making a laser tag system. As part of this, I am getting two arduinos to share a common refferance time. Basically, one of the boards is listening for a pin to go HIGH for ten milliseconds every second, and the other board has to know when to send its pulse so that the other board hears it. It was at this point that I realized "I dont know if, when one types <systemTime = millis();>, this starts the clock back at zero and starts timing or if it just continues timing from whereever it was at. It would be simple to test, but unfourtunatly, I do not have my arduino with me at the moment, and I wont be able to get it quickly, at least for a couple of days and dont want to delay writing the code for this... >> tldr; how do I syncronize the boards so that the sender sends a pulse during a ten millisecond window that the reciever board is listening? >>inb4 interrupts, I tried that and it clusterfucked me... still working on getting it to work, but im not too hopeful, even with another guy working on it with me...

Sand Filter with proprietary 2.5 inch ABS unions

12 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey All Let me start by saying that I live in Panama, so i can't just run to Home Depot to pick up certain things that others may take for granted. So i have a pool, and I bought a new Sand filter. It came with proprietary 2.5 ABS union fittings that are way smaller than a normal 2.5 PVC union, they are also loose when you try to put a 2.5in PVC pipe into them. I tried to glue them with the blue rain-or-shine glue. One of the the joints came out ok, the other leaks. I need ideas on how to diy it, i'll post photo's in a few. I was wondering if its possible to mix PVC shavings into the clear glue to make a sort of PVC paste that I could apply inside the joint to seal it. I cannot buy the green transition cement here, they have no clue what that is. I know its bad, but how do i fix it. Thanks
