reverb unit

10 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey everyone. Hoping I can get some good tech savys out here. I am getting a 70's Fender FR 1000 solid state reverb unit (from guitar center) and I've done some research on it. It has a 2 prong power cord..... Would this affect the reverb unit as bad as 2 prongs do to guitar amps? Would the 2 prong cause the reverb unit to shock me and risk the unit to easily get damaged? Anyone has any experience with this unit?

Furniture restoration

'Sup /diy/nobots. I harvested pic related off the side of the road a few months ago, I now have the time and space to commence restoration. My plan is simply to sand it back and re-varnish it, but that meaty gouge on the top goes about a mill or so into the wood. The grain is not torn (so it would have been a blunt edge, not sharp) but there is definitely a depression there. I have filled this type of defect in the past with a mixture of woodglue and sanding dust from the wood I'm repairing, but considering the pattern on the timber this may stick out like dogs balls. Any protips on lifting this dent? General suggestions before I fuck up what could be quite a nice piece if done well enough? Bonus question; It had a mirror on the top backing (you can see one of the retainers on the right end of the long curve). Would a glazier be happy to do a small run like this (including the edge beveling) or am I going to be wasting my time making the calls? Cheers /diy/!

Silicone mask stuff

Hej hej I want to try creating a silicone mask or two and was looking to get some info from people who know a little more than me. I'm looking at the more professional products not the stuff at the local craft store but I'm finding it hard as the professional products seem to have random names and I have no idea if said product is actually what I need. 1. Basic list of materials for a first try (product names) 2. Where is a good online stores for supplies (pref. in EU somewhere) 3. Good location to find tutorials and learning materials 4. Boards or what not to reach out to the mask making community I have created busts before and done the sculpting on them so I have some idea about those steps but now I want to make molds from my sculpts so I can wear them as costumes (well give it a try and see how it goes) Thanks All

What are some alternate fuels for my Zippo?

So /diy/, some friends and me started playing Catan + player ampliation and is awesome as fuck. The problem is that we are a lot of people so we need another player ampliation but buying another will not even work (as we need more terrain hexagons and shit than before). The idea is to make our Catan + 2 player ampliation but first we need to make the base game first. Any of you did this before? Any recommendation or advise? We plan to make the figures with a 3d printer but we don't know how to make cool looking (and durable) cards and terrain hexagons. Any feedback or idea will be appreciated.

Anyone know what rabbits eat? I caught this feral fucker in my garage. I've got her sitting in a dog kennel with a dish of water and a potato. Before anyone asks, yes, I plan on releasing it after catching the two smaller rabbits I saw while pulling this one out, and after sealing up the hole they dug under the door. Also, would placing a couple of cement pavers between the door and the hole be enough to keep rabbits out until the ground is frozen? I can post pictures of the garage if needed.

Hifi speakers for my PC

10 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Is there any convenient and easy way to get these speakers to work as an output for my PC? As you can see, the hifi system only has an output jack for earphones or headphones, a power connector, a jack for a radio antenna and connectors for the 2 speakers. The first question is: can the phones jack be re-purposed to connect my hifi system to my PC? Will this fuck up one of the two if I try it?

What's a cheap and easy way to make a copy of a modelkit? I've bought a pretty rare resin figure kit and don't want to ruin it in case I mess up assembling. So far I tried (with a cheap resin kit) Alginate: Easy and very detailled, but the moisture fucks up the resin royally. Plaster: Creating the mold is a pita because any intersection ruins it and it's not easy to get the master out again. Plus it needs an extra wax coating or the resin just soaks into the plaster and just makes a solid block. Silicone caulk: Takes forever to cure, or won't cure at all if too thick. Plus it is so flexibe it needs another support, eg plaster. Before I think about expensive 2k silicone, does anyone have a suggestion? It's perfectly fine if the mold survives only one of two castings. I've heard about silicone mixed with glycerine, any experiences with that?

Raspberry pi and/or android tablet

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I’m trying to attach a touch screen to a raspberry pi, and I’m wondering if I can just use a cheap $20-$40 android tablet from aliexpress or ebay. Alternatively I could just buy a touch screen, but they can sell 3.2” touch screens for the pi for the same price as a 7” android tablet. Question lies with whether I can just use the screen and hook it directly to the pi, or if I can use the device itself for my requirements. How do I go about using the android tablet as an interface for the raspberry pi, and how code-intensive would that be? The application I’m using is basically a text box that sends an email or name to a cloud over wifi, so I need the screen to have usable (but not over-the-top) touch keyboard. I know I can root the tablet and have it do what I want, but I’m not sure how to go about it. Also, I’ll remove the battery either way I do it, so I’ll want the tablet to be able to turn on/turn off at the same time as the pi, and only run the application I described. So when the pi is turned off, the tablet turns off, and when the pi is turned on, the pi or tablet runs the application. Basically a kiosk-level monitor with one capability and purpose. aircraft

Any smart individuals with knowledge in aerodynamics please help me! apparently i want to build a personal plane so please post schematics/images/gifs. Questions >Does carbon fiber acts as a good material for building aircrafts? >What type of engine is the best for the aircraft (i don't want to be the fastest) >Is it a good idea to be a small plane? i want to make it lightweight as possible so the efficiency from the wings would be the maximum. Small body big wings. So it would be easier to achieve high altitudes Sorry 4 the grammar Thank you for the attention P.S: My dream is to recreate The Caspian sea monster (one day) ;_;

Working in an apartment

So, I recently moved out of my parents' house and have spent the last 4 months living in an apartment with my grillfriend. It's slowly killing me because I don't have my workshop (welding, cutting, grinding, hand tools, drill press, etc.). My current annoyance is not having a vise. My plan is to buy a Harbor Freight vise and then... I have no idea what I'm going to attach it to. I'm thinking a piece of 3/4" plywood that I can stand on or put weight on. Ideas? Also, apartment workshop general.

Hi Friends. I may be posting this in the wrong place - so I will post it on /sci too. I'm usually STEMs savvy, but these PC Power Supply questions have me lost: Can I hook up the 12v and 5v outputs somehow to achieve a single 17v wire? Would I then use a single ground? Pic related is the connector pin-out.

I want to make my 4 year old son a wooden sword. For playing silly buggers and not much else, what would be a good wood for this?
