Sup /diy/ ? Today i just finished my project of a small portable speaker system. Did some similar audio projects before but this time with small enclosure and passive radiator concept. So i tried to keep my enclosure as sealed as possible but the impact of the drivers on the radiator is rather disappointing. any suggestion on enclosure improvement? actually i dont want to rework the whole thing. TL;DR: protable speaker, no bass. wut do? inb4 achmet

Home made fuels

Olay /diy/ first post here. Wondering something about home made fuels. How does one make kerosene at home from scratch (best material being wood for me as it is in abundance here)

Can anyone recommend any quality resources that are helpful/essential in learning how to configure PIC microcontrollers? Specifically to develop in C using MPLAB and then designing/assembling PCB's accordingly

Thermostat trouble

I was wondering if there was a way to trick my roommates into thinking they have control of the thermostat? My girlfriend has rheumatoid arthritis and it hurts her joints when she gets cold. Our roommates know this and even after many discussions, they have decided to keep putting the thermostat at 65 and "cool" instead of 70 and auto like we originally agreed on, because they're hot and they said she was lying about her joints. I'm tired of the arguing and bickering and everything becoming a pissing match. We have 6 more months on our lease so I was wanting to make the thermostat that's in now look like it's working, but have a real one somewhere in our room. Can you please help us out?

Thermite to make ALMOST pure iron.

16 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Alright, simple as this. Will thermite reaction, produce an almost pure form of iron, or is there aluminum mixed in? assuming I use aluminum and iron oxides. Today I was sitting around staring at a wall, and thought of this. what happens if you made a simple greensand mold and put a tall cylinder on top of it, and cap off the cylinder with some sort of lid, then packed in tightly the cylinder with thermite and placed the cylinder back onto the mold. and lit it. Would it cast iron?

Is there a fish finder that could alert divers to the possible presence of a shark? There has to be something out there that's affordable and would tell divers if there's a large fish around. Also, if your making a shark suit, what size rings and what kind of metal would work? Larger rings would be easier and quicker to work with.. would copper/bronze/tin work alright? What other options are there besides steel? And how would one temper the maille? It would basically be made from thick wire... would tempering serve any benefit?

who generally electronics here? >I'm new to electronics, where do I get started? There are several good books and YouTube channels that are commonly recommended for beginners and those wanting to learn more, many with advanced techniques. The best way to get involved in electronics is just to make stuff. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. >Links to get started http://pastebin.com/9UgLjyND also, general electronics thread

I need a new rig for some cigarettes, I smoke a carton a day and I just had my first smoke on Saturday. The buzz is entirely gone and im tired of chain smoking 2-3 packs in a row to even fwel slightly decent. I have copper pipe, diamond tip drill bits, and a lot of smokes. Thanks man, I appreciate it man, have a good one man

Woodworking

Any diy have experience with mail order wood? I'm repairing some rifles and need European beech. I don't want to order from the first random link on google who will send a block of wood still green and cracking. Woodworkers source has some but its too thin for my needs, other reputable sites don't carry it. What are your go to sources? Local places only had common construction lumbers.

Quick arduino question

Hello! Is there any motor that allows me to move about 0.3 degrees per day? A servo might be good, but I've heard that those have a minimum movement of half degree. I need it to move both ways, so I don't think a stepper could work.

CNC crafts?

so, my company will be getting one of these for me in my little office. the 75 watt CO2 version can cut through up to a half inch of wood at a time(that was the estimate given to me by the sales rep). it can cut and engrave, basically everything that isn't metal. what kind of neat ideas can you think of that I might be able to try off the clock, after hours, and with my own material? I'm thinking of things I'd use with my /tg/ friends like props and stuff, also stuff I'd make for the local fetish community, but I'm very unoriginal that said, WHAT NEAT THINGS HAVE YOU GUYS DONE WITH CNC EQUIPMENT? MILLS, LATHES, LASERS, PRINTERS? WHAT FUN SHENANIGANS HAVE YOU HAD? WHAT KINDS OF ISSUES MIGHT THIS EPILOG SYSTEM GIVE ME?

Cordless Tools

/diy/, What are your favorite cordless tools? I'm looking to buy into a set (shared ecosystem), and want to make sure I buy crap and have to start over. At work we use 18v DeWalts (pic related), they're pretty good, but I think they've been supplanted for the most part by their new 20v line. We have 1 20v cordless and it's much lighter in the hand than the 18v. My boss has a white makita drill and impact driver, they seem to have held up pretty well to our abuse. I haven't had much experience with other cordless sets, we have some Rigid and Porter Cable stuff laying around, but it never gets used because the batteries died. Thoughts or Opinions?

Countertop thread?

17 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Sup /diy/ this is my first thread here, so please excuse my stupidity, if any. I tried to search for kitchen thread in the catalog, but couldn't find any. I'm up to replacing my water-ruined particle board countertop with DIY butcher-block one. I have a circular saw with a decent 40-teeth blade, bought beech countertops from IKEA, 6" and 8" long, planning on getting a router, jigsaw and some stuff, see my to buy list, prices in CAD. The HomeDepot sales dude was trying to sell me a laminated one for the almost the same price. The plan is: 1- cut the countertops at 45° with the circular; 2- trim the cut with router (I have no experience using it, but it looks pretty straight-forward); 3- cut miter bolt slots with the router, using DIY plywood template, connect the miter; 4- cut the sink hole with the jig, put everything together; 4.1- maybe route the edge; 5- build a small L-shaped bar from leftover wood. Anything I missed?

74HC595 Shift Registers

6 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I've just been learning how to use these. I have one IC and I've powered a string of LEDs with an Arduino, then moved onto driving a 1 digit 7 segment LED display and then a 4 digit version with multiplexing. Now I want to elaborate with multiple LED matrices to make a large (at least 24 by 24) matrix (out of 8 by 8 ones most likely). What are my limits with a single Arduino and its 5V supply, if I start daisychaining shift registers to drive such large displays? At what point would I draw too much current?

original Xbox gamepad

I've got this bastard, game original Xbox gamepad, harvested a trigger to repair another one just like it. Any ideas? I was thinking a fightstick for PC unless one can magically hook it up to a 360, maybe also use the motors for a tattoo gun. PIC related, one of the motors, how do I get the weights of without ruining it?
