Apologies for bad English. I put a steel in the back of my phone and zip tied one neodymium HDD magnet to my car air vent for hold phone. Everyone tells me this will break my phone but my phone is not broken. Are they stupid or is it me who is stupid? I am only worry about compass and maybe speaker. It is galaxy S2.

Making a mouse pad

I need help making a mouse pad for my Dad. I've been cross stitching for my holiday pressents. I'm planning one for my dad, but I want it to be utilitarian as well. How could I best create a mouse pad with my cross stitch pattern? I've seen some cheap possibilities with sanded plastics, but I want something nice for him. Does anyone else have any /diy/ gifts they are working on?

Can you guys help me out? I just moved into my new house in Minneapolis, which was built in 1939. I have this switch in my kitchen and I can't figure out what it's for. Underneath the metal cap, there is a spot to install a small lightbulb. Does anyone know what this does, or what it was used for? When I turn it on, nothing happens.

Home Security System?

Does anyone have experience with designing their own home security system? I don't have a huge budget and am not necessarily looking for anything sophisticated. Just something to prevent Home Burglary.

Does anyone have a good DIY cure for dandruff? I tried artificial lemon juice but that wasn't really working out for me.

Knife sharpening

Hello guys, I want to sharpen all the knives I have. Normally I use some knife sharpeners from the store, those are abrasive metal plates where I rub the blades on. But that takes some time. In my grandpas workshop I found this grinder. The left wheel is seemingly out of rubber, but still rigid. Also I found a green block of something that looks like dried up clay. (more Pictures follow) Can I use that grinder to sharpen my knives? And is that green stuff the buffing compound?

I'd like to make a small, hinged box for my girlfriend. So far, it's just a few pieces of 3 ply with the bottoms glued to the base with a PSA. I used these because I work at a flooring adhesive factory and it's what's on hand. The sides aren't glued though (and 3 ply isn't very strong), so I was thinking about putting a layer of primer on top of it to hold it together more, and then painting on top of that. Unfortunately, this stuff has some ragged edges from cutting, and I'm guessing I'll need to sand it too. What is the most efficient approach from where I am currently to a painted, stable, hinged box?

Bulletproof tires

Im thinking about getting an old Caterpillar 769b dumper. I need a way to make the tires impervious to air loss/flats. With a payload of around 75k lbs, simple everyday foam wont work. I was thinking of either filling tires with 30 durometer polyurethane. I also came across this - www.gemplers.com/product/T4024/GEMPLERS-Ultraseal-Tire-Sealant-5-gal-Bulletproof-grade Any DIY ideas? >pic related...the beast

I made a video showing how to make copper sulfide crystals. They're highly conductive and can be used to make conductive coatings and layers. Even drop cast on a paper tower they conduct great. It's also an important material for super capacitors. Theoretically 12 layers of this stuff could power your house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEJVHOou8aM

How hard would it be to take an inkjet printer, remove the inkjet, and put in a laser diode so that I can cut intricate designs like pic related into paper? I'm using a 100mW blue laser if that changes anything. Also will dump stencils to keep the thread alive

Copper plumbing with MAP gas

15 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
So my family tugged on the hose out the front of our house one to many times and the copper pipe the tap is connected to developed a tiny crack. To save myself the trouble of a plumber I decided to borrow one of those little propane torches and redo the joint that cracked. Propane wasn't hot enough and only just melted 10% silver braze so I went and got MAP gas for the torch instead. As I understand this should be hot enough. The braze melts fine but solidifies as soon as it touches the pipe and refuses to wet it. Any tips?

whenever turned on it displays randomly changing numbers, occasionally stopping on something but then continues randomly changing numbers. I opened it up and was greeted by what i would classify as gore. I dont know where to start. the display tube has an odd black spot on one end, i suspect that to be a burn mark of sorts. (pic2) The board at the bottom has an odd wire going seemingly randomly. i have no fucking clue what that is supped to be. (pic3) wat do?
