I guess this is the most appropriate board to have this thread. Anyone into scanners? Use to listen to Police a lot, but they went digital in my area about a month ago. Pretty sure they're encrypted, but thinking of getting a digital scanner anyway, since it's easier to use/program/organise/etc. Probably going to lay down $300 on one of these.

How do you turn off or dim the status LEDs on Raspberry Pi? I know some of them can be turned off in software, but the power LED and I think one other LED can't be turned off that way.

Well, my Ipod Classic simply does not turn on anymore. I already tried everything I've had read on google. Asked a tech support's guy and he told me something inside the Ipod must be disconnected. Anyway, I want to open it therefore I don't have any proper tool. Do you guys suggest anything?

Modding My E-reader's Battery-life

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I have a kobo aura Ereader, and lately I've been wanting to improve its battery life by a gigantic amount and/or making it never needing to be charged (like a solar panel or handcrank). My ereader has great battery life, but I'd like to see just how far I can go. But let's just look at the battery life idea. I have two options I can think of so far: 1) connect some external power cells to my ereaders carrying case and just use my usb charge cable to connect battery to ereader. 2)replace the internal battery with something much larger. somehow. My goal is to make the battery life ridiculously long any ideas? anyone else do something similar?

hey gang Attach one rare earth magnet to one button battery and tape one LED light to all of that. Now you have a THROWIE, a little light that you can toss onto buildings, cars, etc, that will remain lit for weeks. Each one costs about 30 cents if you buy the materials in bulk.

Hey DIY masters Searching for some metal parts today and came across these, there are four in total....But what are they? They have a positive and negative terminals on opposing sides but I don't see a voltage marker anywhere on it. Is this a battery? and if so that would be amazing because its so flat

Cassette tape player issue.

Recently acquired this Marantz PMD222 for cheap, it works pretty great except for one thing. Whenever it's playing and I move it, the tape speed slows down drastically. It seems to be proportionate to the speed at which I move it, but sometimes it doesn't happen. It happens probably 3/4 of the time if not more. Naturally this is a fucking problem for a portable cassette tape player. I searched online, read the owners manual, browsed a couple of forums to no avail. Any ideas?

I want to make a desk suspended from the wall like this but don't like the look of the galvanized pipe at that 45 degree angle. Can I get support using 90 angles and still have it suspended? It will be about 30-40" wide, maybe 14-18" deep and support a mouse and keyboard plus weight of my arms. Mine will not be in the corner.

Upgrades for elec furnace for lower elec bill

What part in my elec furnace can I replace to make my unit more efficient, lower bills? Pic related Please read below.. You go us always seem to know everything about hvac/mechanical systems so I'm gonna run this by u. Long story short I own a 2 family building I lived up stairs while renovating bottom unit. Too unit had an existing hvac system about 6 years old total, when I bought the place. This unit does not seem that efficient stl winters would run me 300 dollars in elec bills, all elec. Now I live in bottom unit, I picked out the system, high efficiency, also a heat pump. My bills r running more like 100-120. I have upper unit rented they had a elec bill 300 mine 115 , I think it's my furnace how can I upgrade the upstairs unit furnace to make it more energy efficient, what parts do I replace?

the Power and Reset LEDs on my PC's motherboard (like in pic) flicker when i turn on the PC - and the PC does not boot. if the speakers are plugged into the 3.5mm jack they pulse ("wow-wow-wow..." sound) at at the same frequency as the LEDs flicker (~20Hz). i checked the voltages on all the connectors from the power supply and they're all good. does anyone have any thoughts on what can cause this flickering? dead caps something? i suspect that the MB is fucked, but how can i figure out what failed?

Led circuit

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
It's my first time with LED's and I am a complete noob on electronics. I want to make a circuit, pic related. 12 rows of 3 leds. I have a 12 V battery pack and the leds are with forward voltage(V) min 3.2 and typ 3.4 and 20 mA. What I can't figure out what resistors to use, because all the info I found on wiring leds was only with parallel or series and I am confused what to do if I have this mixed circuit where series of 3 are wired parallel.

Old one is sliding to oblivion, time for a /QTDDTOT/ reroll. I have just pulled the voice board out of an old Yamaha organ, it delivers A - G through various outputs simultaneously, I want to throw some frequency dividers at it, tack some time based effects on it and turn it into a drone box, but I am confused about the power. I have never seen labeling like this before. Pic related shows its inputs. They are labelled V and -12. The -12 pads goes to the negative side of the electrocap, assumedly serving as a decoupler. I can connect any old 12V supply to this, as long as I connect the negative side to -12, and the positive side to V, correct?

how to wire a TDA1519B

8 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hello DIY, i have question and hope you guys can help me. reently i took apart a couple of wall mounted intercom devices. in these devices i found a speaker and an amplifier. so i thought maybe i can use these parts to make a small portable speaker. The speakers i found both work. but i have no idea how to wire the amp in there and the best way to supply the power. the amp model is a TDA1519B. i found the datasheet for it here: http://www.nxp.com/documents/data_sheet/TDA1519_CNV.pdf my knoweledge of this stuff isn't that high so i can't really figure it out on my own. i was looking at page 8 because it contains a diagram of how to wire it and for so far i think i figured out some of the connections. PIN 4 and 6 will connect to the + side of the 2 speakers - but where does the - go? is that wired to the - of the battery or to the ground (and how would i achieve this) PIN 1 and 9 are non inverting inputs. so i assume if i want stereo sound i put the left and right input on these 2 pins. (do i connect the - of the speakers to the - side of a 3.5 mm stereo cable?) PIN 7 is the supply voltage so this is the place where the power goes in. the document says this should be around 14.4 V with 40 mA. but except for pin 4 and 5 there is no output so again what do i do what the - side. so this is kinda what i figured out from it but this isn't my field. i know how to solder stuff but i don't really know all this stuff so maybe someone can make a simple drawing of the full schematic? if someone would that would make me very happy.
