Can someone recommend me a heavy lifting drone? I have some surveying equipment, it weighs about 7kg and I want to do 30 minutes of surveying per charge. My budget is £3,000. I know this is the /diy/ board but /g/ doesn't know anything about drones so I ask here.

Vardos or Gypsy Wagon Living

8 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hello folks. My wife and I are interested in building a vardo / gypsy wagon (pic related), for use as either a camping trailer, guest house, or possibly even for long term living. There are a variety of build guides I've found, but I thought I would drop a line here to see if anyone has any experience or advice on building campers in general, and tiny campers in particular. Anyone have any stories, resources, or advice on these things? I know it's probably a long shot -- but the internet is a strange place, so who knows.

>client wants a raised fish pond like this Alright. Make a structure out of wood, weatherproof it, whatever. Add a pond liner and it will hold water. But it will be outside, so it can overflow in very rainy days. How can I add an overflow outlet to a PVC pond liner?

How does a pc know what the hardware is, and info about it, when you plug it into a usb? Specifically how does a computer k ow a game pad is a game pad and how many buttons or joysticks it has? And how could a normal person replicate this?

Pulsed high-power LED control

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /diy/ers, I'm looking to build a circuit to control and drive high-power single LEDs. I'm looking at LEDs with stated 1A maximum currents, but looking to build a circuit that can provide sustained operation at up to 1A, as well as pulsed operation at up to around 10x that (pulses of a few ms, so with an adequately low duty cycles I should be able to operate well over max specs for the LEDs without burning them out). The problem is, I have no real knowledge of electronics beyond basic V=IR fundamentals. I'm trying my best here, but it's quite possible I'm approaching this problem in a very stupid way. To control this, I'll be interfacing everything with a scientific instrument that has a number of active-low TTL output pins. I'm looking to use one pin to trigger the pulses, and (ideally) a few others to directly control the driven current. The CAT4101 LED control chip I'm looking to use pulls down current related to the current through the RSET pin, so is normally controlled by changing the resistance between RSET and GND. Question 1: Given I have a bunch of output pins to interface with and no real way to output serial communications, is there a simple way of controlling a variable resistor (as shown) with parallel digital inputs? If not, what should I be doing instead? Question 2: I'll be needing a 5V power supply that can do up to 10A. I'm not having much luck finding these; am I an idiot using the wrong search terms, or should I just find an old computer PSU and run things through the 5V rail? /a poor confused scienceanon who needs help making technology work

Does this idea make sense?

An idea discussed in >>>/biz/1106359 led to the idea in pic related, which I'll describe in detail since I am terrible with a pen. The idea is to dig a lake which mostly lies only a few cm below sea level (it would curve downwards towards the middle), so that water evaporates rapidly, with the intention of increasing local rainfall. This lake would be connected to the ocean by an overground channel and an underground tunnel. As water evaporates, the overground channel replaces it with seawater, and the salt left behind by evaporating water would cause water at the bottom to become very saline and thus sink through the tunnel to return to the ocean.

Why aren't we using long-wave radios signal for Internet, much like we use shorter wave radio signal for this today (ex: 4G)? Long-wave radio signal tends to spread further than short wave. Sure, the connection would be slower, but far more territory would be covered by an Internet connection.

I'm getting a good deal on this house because it used to be my parents. It's not great looking and it's from 1959. I have questions as a first time homeowner looking to make it both more comfortable and more valuable: What style would you say it is? What porch/deck design would suit it best? I like craftsman style but don't know if it would be appropriate. What paintjob do you think would work or should I just leave the brick and put some primary color trim up? Any other ideas that leap out at you? The roof was getting repaired in this picture.

Fakeulus Rift

I want to build myself a VR headset, and Im wondering which of the many ways to do this is best. Right now Im thinking that copying OpenVR with a better screen would be the easiest, as Vireo Perception works pretty well and all the software is ready to go. On the other hand, it is possible to clone a legit Oculus Rift by using that one ARM board and doing some black magic with EEPROMs, though I dont know if it will be worth having something that will work with stuff designed for the OR in the long run when it's just a fake dev kit 1. Anyone ever attempted this before?

Post categories of tools where quality doesn't matter so you should just get the cheapest ones you can get. For example: Sockets. Your typical Harbor Freight sockets will last you just as long and work just as well as the Snap-On equivalent and as such, it would take a tremendous idiot to pay the Snap-On surcharge.

My bf punched a hole in the bedroom door of our rental. We're moving out soon and want to repair it in a way that will leave it looking pretty good. It's a shitty apartment so very slight discoloration is okay and wont stand out- just want it to look good. It's made of a crappy, lightweight cardboard material.

TLDR: How to safely encapsulate fragile popcorn ceiling with non-toxic paint? So I'm living under this old popcorn ceiling which hasn't been painted over since it was sprayed on over 50 years ago. Behind it is rough unfinished ceiling. It likely contains a small amount of asbestos, as was common in the '60s, and I am worried what would happen if there is another epic earthquake here in Cali, and thinking about all the times during childhood when I threw things at the ceiling, and other times accidently scraped against it. I really want to just get the fuck out of here, but am NEET with no connections and little money. I repeatedly asked my mom to get them to paint it- the buildings hallways have it painted over so it doesn't break off pieces if you accidentally the ceiling, but since it is rent controlled apartment its not something they would do. Is there a way I can paint the ceiling myself, without disturbing the material and creating toxic dust? Spray painting probably. I rarely lurk here and have no experience with this sort of thing. Random pic, but same thing. Also, I curse my mom every day for not knowing about the dangers of this shit and telling me not to fuck with the ceiling. I was completely unaware of the dangers until I looked up on google last year.

Portable Shed

Hey so I'm thinking about building a portable shed (basically just putting wheels on it to avoid taxes) and was wondering about trying to do a thin concrete floor. I was going to go for a 2"-4" layer but didn't know if that sounded like a bad idea or if there may be any unknown complications in trying. In case it make a difference I was going to do a 6'X8' floor. Thanks in advance.
