I'm fucking depressed. I'm unemployed (not broke) and have way too much time on my hands with not enough ideas or motivation. How do I find my DIY-muse? I feel the need to create something, at this point I don't care if I can make money or entertain anyone but myself. However, eventual income would be really cool. Background: I'm a shitty "mechanical" engineer with extensive experience in project management, automation, and 3D CAD. I'm cursed by being a "jack of all trades," as in, I'm not very good at anything except researching and learning new skills JUST well enough to complete a task. Shitty "skills" and stuff I have: >programming and databases: VB.net, Python, AutoIT, SQL, VBA >microcontrollers/PLC: Arduino, Allen Bradley, Opto22, Velocio >CAD: Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD >tools: most basic hand tools and power tools. TIG welder access >photography/videography equipment: Canon 70d with a variety of lenses. Canon EOS M. 2x action cameras >audio recording equipment >electronics: tons of passives and crap to go with my handful of Arduinos, multimeter, soldering station >have an LLC and a few domain names I'm really thinking about getting a 3D printer, for $250, it seems like a bargain. I have a good amount of experience using a Makerbot Replicator 2x, so I'm not learning from scratch. Other random interests include: motorcycling (I have 4 of them), cars (own a WRX), guns, hiking, random bullshit... Every time I think of something, I find a better version online. If I think of something that doesn't exist (possible product idea) I start researching, developing, and prototyping to find out it doesn't fucking work or is just overall shitty. If anyone is in or around Denver and want to collaborate on something, I'll post my email address. Anyway, I need ideas or inspiration! So, I guess this is an inspiration thread.

Need your help /diy/ I'm looking to replicate pic related to have as a backup. The one I have cost a small fortune, and I hope to have a spare for under $100 or so. I have found most of the brass fittings and everything else on Amazon except: 1. The plastic bottle 2. The bottle lid This is a low pressure (>50psi) setup. The bottle lid has roughly 1/8 and 1/2 female thread on the top and 1/4 inch female thread on the side. It has a Legris nylon pickup tube out the bottom. The bottle is hard plastic. I see no markings on either either except the bottpe is gradiated by 100ml up to 800. You can put a liquid in the bottle and pressurize the air with a pump or CO2. Hopefully one of you guys will be able to point me in the right direction.

Hey /diy/ Awhile ago I ordered a FM transmitter kit and put it together. The thing didn't seem to work right upon testing it with a cheap antenna (made out of telephone wire) and leads from the battery (made with the same wire) and the left and right channels wired to a cheap stereo jack from old headphones. It seemed to be broadcasting AM stations but through FM channels, which I thought was really odd/impossible. I have a few question and hope someone can answer. Is it possible to broadcast AM stations on FM frequencies? would turning the variable capacitor (orange thing) all the way out damage it? would applying a current from a battery with a capacitor missing damage the entire thing? In regards to pic related: why is there two leads for both the right and left channel and the antenna, grounds maybe? Do I need to solder a lead to those connections, if so how? The instructions I got were very vague and there was an error for the location of one of the capacitors. The sellers wouldn't respond to questions asked. Thanks

Getting to the point here, trying to create a device like pic related (A device that fills a beer glass from the bottom) So I want to fill and drain a cup from the bottom just as easily as pic related. So are there any easier ways of doing this? I want it to be as easy as placing the cup on a nozzle and just taking it off to release. Or even having some tubes that can be easily attached/detached from the base of the cup itself. (Are there certain names for tube attachments like this)

Growing Mushrooms Indoors/Outdoors

5 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Anybody have experience with growing mushrooms indoor? I have a lot of rooms and a basement in my house and would like to try growing mushrooms as a hobby. They're delicious, and I think I could sell some as a little cash on the side. Oyster mushrooms are tasty and I've heard they are easy to grow. I love shiitake a lot, but they are slower growing. Cremini, white button, portobella are all okay tasting. But I want more: the glorious Morchella esculenta, the Dry Land Fish, the Morel. I want to grow it indoors. I have some money to invest (I already have a grow tent and lights for growing other things), I'm just not sure what to get. gmushrooms.com has a kit for it, but it's outside. I understand they may not produce the first year, I just want something where I can get pounds of these. I'm crazy for them. Anybody have some advice? Maybe a point in the right direction? I live in the Daniel Boone National Forest (southern part), but I have NEVER seen any morels. I have been hunting for years. I guess they are not in my particular area or I don't check during the right times. plz help

so the faggoty service centre I took my car to for the australian equivalent of the MOT inspection fucked me over, telling me I had gone over the due date with a shit eating grin hoping I would consent and pay them mega bucks for the random repairs they decided it needed. after three hours on the phone trying to get the transport department to tell them to stop being such giganting faggots they failed me so i just drove home. help me write this so far 6 page letter of butthurt. >inb4 some faggot just fags up the document instead of helping. https://docs.google.com/document/d/18hHVd98NpAvDlHzSSfjPV6pYmDQBaEEn_X7-KtEoyUQ/edit?usp=sharing

Bite Force Meter

This might seem a wee bit weird, but I feel like building a bite force meter for myself. I've looked online and there's not really anything commercially available. It all looks like medical equipment that probably costs hundreds. I kind of want to go low-tech/mechanical if possible just because it'd be cheap. I guess I would be open to some form of electrical, load cell related solution if it wouldn't be too much trouble. How would I go about doing this?

Ethernet cables

9 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Months ago, the reforming/building of my house was completed, and it received lots of Ethernet cables inside the walls. But, only one outhelet is working (pic related, all of them are like the one I'm pointing at). The man who was installing these CAT-6 cables was able to flee from my house before finishing the job, and then, I have no proper cables to use. I need your help to discover what is the problem with them, and how to solve. More information on the next posts...

How to extract this Hard Drive motor?

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I recently came across some of my old hard drives that I want to recycle (just in time for the yearly Earth Day recycling) and I want to salvage the motor and magnets, but I cannot figure out how to get the motor out of this hard drive. There are no torx screws around the motor, just three...metal plating that I can't get rid of. Any advice?

What is the cheapest way to block sun out of a room? I started a new job working nights and it's pretty hard to sleep with any light in my bedroom. I don't think blackout curtains will keep out enough light
