I don't really come here so I don't know if this is the place to ask. I figure it's natural enough to not really be called a "weapon" per se. I don't care if it comes out crude or anything, but what would be the tools necessary for taking a general and large hunk of wood and make it look like pic related? I imagine with luck alone you could find everything above the grip. As for experience, I'm somewhere below novice.

Alternatives to 9v Batteries

7 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Okay, so I have a rescue guitar from the 80's that actually sounds really good with fuzz or high gain, and the novelty of the instrument is that it has a speaker built in. After replacing all the sub-par components, including the speaker, I find that the only thing left to address was the fact that the 9volt battery inside is drained super quickly. I have some soldering experience when it comes to electronics, but I am not an expert by any means. I was hoping that someone here might have an idea for some way to negate the use of a 9volt, either with an alternative (less expensive) battery set up or preferably by stepping down the voltage of a 12v transformer (however one might manage to do that). At first I thought USB stepped up to 9v might be a solution but after some research, that seems to be a pain in the ass to efficiently accomplish without just buying a converter. Any ideas?

Machining and lathes

I didn't find a machining general or anything similar in the catalogue and I read all the links already, but what sort of lathes do you hobbyist machinists use? I am currently changing fields and studying to be a machinist, and what little manual machining we did last year left me wanting for a small lathe that I can just use in my home and I am interested in hearing what machines you use and which one I should look into buying. I guess my criterias are that it's relatively silent and can machine softer steels, also something that can be shipped to northern european countries. Pic not related, it's a lathe I use at work, or same model atleast.

Keyboard modding

How many of you guys have experience with modding a mechanical keyboard? I'm rocking a Steelseries 6GV2 (for 2 years now) and I still love it so much. I really love the completely blank key caps on modded keyboards, but they are expensive and the enter key is sold nowhere (its this long enter thingy). I thought maybe sand the key caps and spray paint them. Maybe some more ideas I could do?

Lately my quite life has been fuck thanks to my neighbours little kid. I am not entirely sure if it is the new couple living right from me or the ones living under me or both. I am not sure if it is the walls being too thin or all the cracks. There are even two outlets, one of them unusable and fucked. This room, my current bedroom, supposedly was a kitchen once so the rooms of my neighbours should be their kitchens too. I don't have a lot of money and I am not expecting anything, but I am very stressed at this point. If I wasn't socially retarded I would have talked with them already to at least keep their kid away from the kitchen and see if there is anything visible on their wall, but the fact that I am not sure where it is coming from and that they just might not care is stopping me. Online I read about using heavy curtains and even egg cartons. That would be a lot of egg cartons and I am not sure how good of a plan it would be.

Need help!

I'm a freshman engineer student and I could use some help. One of my classes is called Challenges of Enginery and the topic is to create a big project on a random subject. This year is creating a machine that reduces the production of garbage. I still have time, but my group and I can't think of any good projects. The projects have to be original, functional and must not generate more garbage than the one it eliminates. If anyone has any idea that they could share i would be really grateful. (random pic for attention)

Framing and Mat Cutting

I'm starting my own business making poster frames out of repurposed wood from barns and restoration jobs. The frames are easy to make with my tools, and I'm getting a mat cutter Monday. Do any of you have any techniques you like to use?

OK guys, it's been a while since we've had this thread. What tools are absolutely awesome, but not everyone knows how awesome they are? I was at walmart the other day and I was looking at pic related. It was 18 bucks, but it looked really handy, worth buying? tl;dr post less common tools that are really handy
