I intend to make the ring I propose with, and I plan to propose within the year. I want to be confident in myself when I make it, and am going to spend some time practicing with copper or whatever else that's cheap I can use. I come asking for any resources you might be able to provide me with, and with a few questions. Examples I've found of others doing the same: http://imgur.com/a/irM7e http://imgur.com/gallery/MJy7T http://gizmodo.com/5616983/how-to-make-your-own-engagement-ring https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2epi6xRFKFE (cody's lab) http://imgur.com/gallery/qBZ0g I see two methods, making a cast or soldering a band closed. Which will produce a better result? I envision a "solitaire", single gem on a yellow gold band to match her Aggie ring.

Horizontal flag hanging

Yo /diy/. Was wondering if there was any way I can hang my Soviet flag horizontally without using tacs to puncture the flag or buy some fancy flag clip. Pic related.

radio for beginners

Hey /diy/, I spent a good chunk of last summer killing time on hamstudy, just for fun really, and got to the point I could ace the second tier practice tests all day. It got me really excited about radio in general, and today is one of the first nice days we've had outside and I regretted not having any equipment, so I ordered one of these cheap USB receivers for use with software-defined radio. Anybody else ever play with one of these? Not expecting too much out of it, but I'd like to be able to listen to locals on a few bands, maybe pick up some satellite imaging, cw, other neat stuff like that. Tips, general discussion, etc.?

Yard Equipment Rodeo

As we’re well into the yard maintenance season, how about a yard equipment thread of stuff we either have or would like to have? I have the pictured Ariens lawn mower, that I bought a couple years back ($700) to replace my 20+ year old Ariens mower that had given up the ghost and while I like the caster wheels, (pretty much mandatory IMO) they changed the drive system design over the years and I dislike the cut out in the deck for the drive belt on the new mower, which allows dust and clipping to blow out.

Booby Traps

I've been egged the past two weekends and I'm getting sick of it. What are some non-lethal booby traps I could set up? Attached is a picture of what my front yard looks like.

So I got one pack of various assorted components and this used trimmer came in it. It probably was in a radio. There are is nothing telling me the model or enything besides being made by toko .inc and that it has 4 capacitors. It has 8 leads, 6 on one side tree on the other. Does someone knows which lead is attached to what? I tried measuring various lead combinations and I only got close to 100 pF.

What are some good projects for a high school senior set on aerospace engineering to do? Any ideas? If questions like these are not allowed on the board, my apologies. I figured this is the place to go for such a question Thanks

Stupid question I've got one of these portable ACs in my office, and the exhaust tube goes up to the ceiling So when it's running, the tube is radiating a quite a bit of heat. I was wondering what's the best way to insulate it

Hi DIY, I need your help. I have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on weed and have finally decided to grow it myself. I am not an experienced gardener. Specifically I have been looking at Ebb flow systems, and other hydroponic systems. If you know of a system that works well please let me know. I also need advice about lights, spacing, nutrients, and the basics of growing weed/hydrofarming And I live in Seattle with a Rec card so growing is %100 legal

I have been looking for the most energy efficient setup in RC flight. The goal is to sustain a glider in flight for the longest time possible on a single charge. Here are some base specifications that may help Weight (2.5-4.5lb) Folding Propellers 1.) Voltage (3s, or 4s batteries) 2.) Propeller (Stay with recommended prop, or is there a more efficient option {decreases x traits for efficiency}) 3.) Motor brands (any well known companies with higher quality magnets or products) 4.) Motor kV (which is the most efficient kV for a glider? Higher, lower, medium {800kV large prop vs 1600kV small prop}) 5.) ESC (are there certain types that are more efficient, companies or higher quality brands. Should I use a higher amperage ESC if the weight is the same?) 6.) Throttle (What is the best throttle percentage for efficiency, {like a car getting best mpg with slow acceleration, should I keep the throttle between 40-60% when running for example or 80%-90%?}) 7.) Servo Motors (What will yield the best efficiency for constant use, or is this minimal consumption in the glider. Again, any companies, brands or styles?) If there is any point that may increase efficiency on a glider electrically speaking, let us know. Pick a number if you want and discuss the best options for a specific topic in efficiency. This will help me and the entire community find the best option for the better flight times and more advanced builds!

Collet and bit stuck in router

9 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hi /diy/ I just bought by first router and got this popular Bosch 1617EVSPK model from a seller on ebay that was selling it $40.00 cheaper than Amazon. The item was described as brand new but I had my doubts as soon as I opened it. I put a bit in it and tightened the collet chuck, just to get a feel of how this thing works... Now when I unscrewed the chuck, the collet nut came off but the collet itself, and the bit are stuck in the router. The instructions say its a self-extracting collet chuck and NOT necessary to strike the collet chuck to free the bit... Any ideas on how I get this bit out? I have already started the return process on ebay so I'd like to get the bit out before I mail this piece of shit back. Thanks.

Alright so I picked up a 1978 Yamaha 250e for free. When it was kick started, you could hear a faint hiss. I took the engine off the bike and removed the piston, which was cracked. (pic related) I installed the new one. Moar to come\/
