Channellock vs Knipex

30 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Is there a benefit to either make in reference to grip or weight? I know for a fact here in the U.S. there is definitely a difference in price I like my Channel locks, the multiple sizes combined are probably my most used hand tool. The steel is damn tough and takes a beating for years and still grips tight. Yet i have never wielded a pair of Knipex. So whats up?

Using used coffee grounds as a potting medium

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I'm not talking about germination, I'm talking about for transplant once the plants are ready. I have little cash (I can not afford potting soil) but I can get basically unlimited used coffee grounds from the local coffee shop for free. Has anyone tried this before? Source I got the general idea from: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/1997588/coffee-grounds-as-a-planting-medium "The seedlings in each of the planting media appear equally healthy as the first true leaves appear." So I'm thinking it shouldn't really be a problem, I would rinse the grounds thoroughly beforehand so it won't be as acidic.

Guys I just changed the oil in a 2005 VW Passat and the filter holder was missing the lower o-ring. Am I fucked? I put a new one on but now I'm wondering if I should pull the whole thing apart looking for the old one...

How would you design cannons for naval LARPing? Been bouncing around a few ideas, such as somehow making an extra-powerful airzooka which we stick flour in.

Auto AC leak

11 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Trying to fix the AC in my sis's car. Put a gauge on the low side and see 0 psi. Hook up a can of 134a, put an ounce in and hear it hiss out somewhere to the rear. I'd like to hook my compressor to the lowside fill and push 50 psi in it to help locate the leak. How bad of idea would that be? There is probably air in the system already, but not the amount I'd be introducing.

Transformer help

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Help, /diy/nosaurs. I have this transformer that's overheating, and I'm guessing it's bad. It's an ancient Tandy/RadioShack part, and searching part numbers turns up nothing. I don't really know anything about transformers, and I can't figure out what the 0413 label means. But I'm pretty sure it's not supposd to be scalding hot and burning the board. Can anyanon help me find a replacement?

Ring?

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
So my sis has this ring and she loves the fuck out of it. She wants it dipped in rhodium so it will have a nice shine. However, it is mostly copper (at least we think) and is AAA cubic zirconia. Will getting it dipped ruin it in anyway? P.S. there isn't exactly a jewelery board sorry

Fuckin 60's circuit boards man, I'm trying to do a total recap on this stereo console, but at this point I dont know if its even worth the headache.i have the schematic and service man, but still. I've worked on 70s boards MUCH better than this. >each board is hard wired to others making individual removal inpossible >capacitors wired to resistors >caps hiding under other wires >no clean organizaton

Laptop Battery Upgrade.

I was sent here from this >>56120712 post. I wish to crack open my laptop battery and replace the worn out cells with NCR18650Bs because I doubt I can find a replacement battery with them in it. What techniques are involved with splitting open the battery in a reusable way?

Pimp my case

Hi diy, I have this ugly transparent phone case on my phone and I am considering painting it in deep black. What paint should I use ? Wouldn't it wear off rapidly ? Obviously the case is flexible so there's that too..

I drink two liters of Diet Coke per day, mainly by going to the nearby gas station and filling up my giant trucker mug two or three times per day. At $1.50 per refill this is relatively economical, but inconvenient and includes the ancillary costs of fuel for my car and my time (20 min per round trip). I can't stand the taste of Diet Coke in 2L bottles because they are clearly inferior to the fresh-mixed sort you get from a fountain machine. Who here uses these fountain dispensers in a domestic setting, and how does one reliably procure boxes of concentrate from Coca-Cola? Some initial research shows that it requires some contractual commercial bullshit with Coca-Cola to procure their syrups. How much maintenance do they require?
