Loose thread fitting

I have 10 laser pens of the same type(cheap Chinese ones) in aluminum and the threads are a bit loose, is there any way to improve the friction for the threads by applying some friction grease/paste? its for adjusting the focus of the lens so right now there is a slight wiggling room that i would like to get rid of.

Hey /diy/. What are the most common reasons that cause electronics to malfunction? And what are the easiest ways to repair these electronics malfunctions?

In my intro. to music class there is a assignment about building (and playing) a home made instrument. Can I get some ideas or tips here? I'm the youngest one in the class so I want to do an amazing job on this assignment.

My tenants are too stupid and lazy to get up and take their garbage to the curb on collection day, so now there are rats under the front deck. What's the quickest and most discreet way to get rid of the vermin (the rats, not the tenants, they have been given a written warning)? I'm trying to rent out another unit in the house, so I don't want to have rat traps around the property. Also, if I use poison is there any chance that neighborhood cats will eat it and get kill? That isn't my biggest concern desu but I would prefer to avoid it.

I want to get into Epoxy molds, especially of the carbon fibre variety, but a lot of the suggested products are pretty pricey. I'm willing to pay but I wonder what I'm paying more for one Epoxy over the other. As far as carbon fibre goes, it's pretty obvious density and size based pricing, but if I wanted to get into building heavy duty stuff like what you'd see a mountain bike or plane part being made of, or is that a technical process more than just painting some fibers with a brush (ie pressure molds, heat, gas)

Is electric engineering worth it, or is it better to just be a electrician? Should I just go into a trade or is going to get a 4 year degree better?

I need to repair some USB cables and similar computer wires that my rabbit has eaten through. What are the best connectors to do this with? At the moment I'm using WAGO lever connectors, but I want a long-term solution that I can wrap up with tape when done preferably

plumbing part ID

Anyone know what these critters are? I am going through my plumbing parts and I can not figure it out. The stainless pin is spring loaded and pushes the rubber grommet thing out but I can not seem to blow through it when depressed/not depressed so it does not seem like a check valve........ Any help would be appreciated!

Electrician vs Plumber

What are the pros and cons of these two career choices? First off I will say that I am more interested in electrical, industrial work in particular, and am already enrolled in the program for next year. I'm thinking about whether or not it would be more practical long-term to switch to plumbing. I will admit that I am concerned about the life-threatening nature of electrical work, but am also thinking about which job will take a greater toll on my body over the years. I am also 29 and leaving a dead-end office job to do this, if that makes any difference.

Questions that don't deserve their own thread thread. So, my neighbor cut down an old tree of his to make room for a fucking 10,000 lbs lift. Super fucking bad-ass, but besides the point. He gave me the wood from the tree, and while I wanted to let it sit for a good long while in the shed so I could use it for firewood, my wife is insisting on using it for seating in the backyard. She said, "just seal it and set it out there." >Okay, baby, you got it So, how would I have to treat some stumps to sit in my backyard and endure Colorado weather?

ITT: Uncommon uses for the tool we all carry. The mighty Leatherman. Mod ideas also welcome. Sounds simple but the back of the saw makes a fantastic ferrocerium rod striker.

I'm planning out my first bench power supply, just ordered all the parts I think I'm gonna need for this first try at it. If you have any features you would like to suggest I add, or just wanna post your own power supplies you made, please do so Here's some rough specs for my own design >LM317, LM337 dual supply (1.5A max on each) >about -20 to +20 VDC >2 ten turn pots, 5k >2 panel mount voltage and current meters (one for above and below ground) >No current limiting (may change my mind, just don't want the extra pots and hassle) >one 40mmx40mm 12V fan, controlled by ATtiny45 and thermistors (so I'll have a 7805 and 7812 inside to power each) >3 banana plugs of course >BNC output, since I have a BNC to alligator clip adapter I may make a plywood enclosure or 3D print one at school, though the dimensions would be limited. Dimensions I'll have to think about was also thinking about adding a 555 1Hz output just for kicks, though I think I'll save that for when I build a function gen.

Setting up Driveway LED lights

Hello I need some held with setting up lights on my driveway similar to the picture The driveway is about 20m long and there are LED lights on one side along the way. I want to set the lights so that they are turned on by motion. On the house side of the driveway I plan to use a simple IR motion sensor, which is not a problem. I have problem with the road side of the drive way. On the road side of the driveway I want to use a photocell or beam switch. (Sorry but I don't know the correct term, it is like a safety switch that you use on a sliding doors normally) I want to se this kind of switch so lights are nor activated by every car , or cat that passes by. I think in addition to switch I need a time delay relay that I put after the beam switch, but I'm not sure. Anyone has any experience with this setup? How do I connect this beam switch with IR motion sensor on a house side of the driveway? Maybe a link to a parts that I need? (ebay, gearbest,.. is ok) I'm in central EU if that matters.

110V to 220V

Hey /diy/ I might be moving to Australia in the nearish/mid future and I will have a way of shipping lots of heavy stuff for free like my amps in pic related. My question is, is it likely possible or approachable to consider rewiring the transformers in the amps to run on 220V instead of their native 110V? Someone was telling me that depending on how the trans. is designed it might not be that hard. I know I could probably get some of this stuff in Australia but it would be hard to find and really expensive and I won't have a lot of money to bring with me. Also the Audiocontrol stuff is zero chance of finding in Australia. The main units I'm thinking about are the two NAD amps, if it helps there are a 7175PE Power Envelope (top with the radio station displaying) and a 2155 (bottom with the blank face).
