rope hole wood bushing thingy

5 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Looking for something to protect a rope that goes through a piece of wood. I could smooth down the edges of the holes, but I'd rather have something else like a grommet to keep it from shredding the rope. Not sure if the home center sells something like that or not.

Is there anywhere to practically learn how to forge, drill, bore, and ream, what we can call for now very precise, small and unusually thick pipes made of hard metal with a small diameter? I'm interested in making such pipes that could be capable of passing precise objects through smoothly.

Help me choose the impossible.

I want to build my own personal Rapture out of a shipping container. This seems doable if the air pressure inside is kept equalized with outside water pressure. If it's 21 feet deep or less I shouldn't have to decompress in order to surface. I assumed buckets of concrete for ballast initially at 100lbs each but that yielded an infeasibly high number of buckets, so I changed it to lead shot. The weights need to be done this way so one person is physically capable of moving the lead out there by hand, adding it to the buckets bit by bit. I plan to send fresh air down continuously via a pair of redundant oil free electric air compressors on a battery backup, with an alarm that will let me know if power is cut. Anything I'm missing? Anything you'd add, or change?

Knives

Knife making thread? What would be the best way to assemble the handle for this knife with such a short tang. Never really 'made' a knife before, except for a shitty one I did in school ages ago.

So after dealing with 2 months of almost tripled electricity bills, I've determined my upstairs neighbor is stealing electricity from me. He lives directly above me, and I finally noticed an extension cord draped out of his window, wrapped around the corner of the building, and plugged into an outlet in the front of the building, directly underneath outer windowsill of my bedroom. I initially assumed that the outlet was just part of the circuit for the building, like with laundry and such. But last night, I went through each of my apartment breaker switches, and finally found one that controls that outlet. The thing is, it also apparently controls my bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen light. I went ahead and switched the breaker, so whatever he had on there is done for now. It also means that I'm without most of my lights. Is there anyway I can disable that outlet, or invisibly fuck up his cord, while leaving my lights alone? I would deal with him in person, but he seems like a very dangerous drug dealer/user or pretend he doesn't speak English, and I'd prefer to deal with this without being face to face. Also, my landlord is a scumbag who wouldn't give a shit, and I wouldn't be surprised if he suggested this to my neighbor.

why do no kitchen cabinet makers use solid wood or non wood alternatives anymore? i got quoted $10000 for cabinets (no install, appliances or benchtop and not that many over head cabinets) made out of that shitty chipboard stuff and everywhere i go is the same laminated board deal. so expensive for a garbage product i can buy from ikea

I have no idea if there even is a proper board for this, but would anyone know how I could get hard, strong, nearly pure gold that's minimally doped with some other element. Like 95%+ pure gold, but just enough of something else that it won't be malleable. Brittle would even be okay, though not best. Maybe monocrystalline gold??

Unscientific poll What type of screwdriver would you use for screws like this?

What would you do to make this livable?

54 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Cringe, yes I know. Living in a vehicle, this small, that is 2 from the 90s? Anon are you out of your mind!? No, I just have to, undergrad was expensive. I just received my first med school acceptance letter. Great, except I won't be able to work in med school like I did these past 4 years. Solution: Live in my truck for the year, and save every dime I have in preparation. So, now that I'm done with my sob story, how do I make this livable? I'm planning on tinting my windows, not too dark as I'm trying to keep my bed on wheels low on the radar. I will park in a corner in my university parking garage and wake up before everybody else does ( i already do anyways). I'm thinking of removing my passenger seat and possibly building a flat platform with hinges so it can fold up. +soft layers for a makeshift bed. How do I do this? OR, any other ideas welcome. Thanks in advance anonbros

What type of clay is this? I'm looking for clay that would be appropriate for a furnace, and I found this dark grey clay, near an ironsand beach. It's greyer than it looks in the picture, I took this picture after sunset so Windows decided to tamper with the colours to make it look sunny.

Woodgas generator for electricity?

17 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Been looking around to see if there is a way to make a woodgas generator that is effective enough to give power for an entire household. I have been prepping my cabin in case of something unknown in the far future and when there's a power shortage. Been looking at power alternatives for a while but most of the common ones would not work here (not enough sun or wind, but a shit ton of trees)

Casting Polyurethane

17 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /diy/ trying to cast a grippy tread to 8in wheels for a robotic project. About 20 to 30 pounds of weight on four wheels with a tank like drive system so there will be some rubbing while turning. Any tips on casting polyurethane that I should be aware? Does it bind with ABS straight from the 3D printer? Cheap materials that I can substitute to experiment with different types of treads?

Gutters

13 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
What does /diy/ know about gutters? Should I try installing them myself or are they too easy to mess up? I'd hate to try a water management project that just causes a headache and makes things worse. Any of you put up your own gutters? Have any recommendations?
