Sup gents. I'm making a part on my mini lathe that requires a deep hole. I have the drill bit (16 inch long 3/16", hole will be 14" deep), cutting fluid, and everything works fine with the drill chucked into the tailstock. I've already made a part before with this drill, everything is going smoothly as before but it's very slow going. Pic related, I have to take the tailstock off completely to free the drill up since the bed is so short, you can see the part sticking out of the head off to the right. Obviously I don't have through-coolant so I have to pull out to evacuate chips and it gets time consuming when you're more than a foot deep with a 0.1875" drill. So I have a quick change tool post and a boring bar tool holder. I can grab the drill higher up the shank so the tip can come free of the part within the carriage travel. I lined the drill up and clamped it securely with brass shims, so it's much faster. The problem is the drill doesn't want to bite at all. It cuts smooth when it's in the tailstock, but now that it's on the carriage, it just crunches and bounces and bends. Tried various speeds/feeds, tried tapping oil instead of cutting fluid, she just don't want to fucking grab a chip. What gives?

My sister is selling me her house so we can both save some money. Said house has both asbestos tiles in the basement and popcorn ceilings pre-1980. Tiles span about 1000 sq ft, but are mostly undamaged and undisturbed. Pop corn ceiling has to go, but is only in two rooms, about 1000 sq ft. If I remove them myself, how fast will I die?

Hello DIY, so software for modelling projects?

I have seen people use programs to create files for laser cutters and generally make interesting furniture/ custom storage units. I have no idea where to begin but I would like to be able to obtain software like this, so I can get past using pen and paper.

Hello, /diy/. I don't come here much, but I need some assistance with ideas for insulation in a shed as I'd like to use it as a workshop and would spend a good amount of time inside. The shed has a good roof and siding on the outside, but the inside is barren, just walls and studs. I already plan on sealing every crack and crevice I can find, but I'd like to insulate it a little in the cheapest possible non-toxic way. I won't own the property, so I'd rather not sink a bunch of money into the project and I don't have a lot of tools to put towards the project right now, so avoiding having to cut drywall or wood to cover the insulation would be nice. Doesn't need to be high-quality insulation, just a little something extra to help keep it a reasonable temperature when using a heater or small ac unit. TL;DR: Need to insulate a shed on a low budget. Needs to be simple, non-toxic, cheap, and not require it to be covered. Doesn't need to be high quality or pretty.

How are the holes drilled in fitness equipment such as this? The steel is usually around 11 gauge or so. I was thinking it could be flow drilled with a flush cutter, but the inside of the hole doesn't have the telltale build up.

Fantastic parts and where to check them!

Greetings DIY masters So I find and junk a lot of stuff, and I do enjoy reusing a lot of the parts off circuit boards, but lately I was hoping to increase my efficiency by using even smaller components However, a lot of the parts look similar despite being very small. Is there any website, program or something I can do to identify these parts off a circuit board? To find out what they do? I tried googling the part numbers but not much seems to come up

got a beutiful oak bed for free. It was used by overweight people before so it's all creaky now. Makes horrible noises even from tiniest movements. Seems the previous owners tried to fix this by adding extra screws. Doesn't seem it worked as it's in my hands now. Any ideas how to silence it? Pic semi related, very similar looking except the head piece

What is the best way to attach my ford emblem to my car? Should I just use super glue? It's on a piece of metal with no paint so it wouldn't affect any paint Is there a better way of going about this?

Recently I "upcylced" a Lee Enfield/.303 Rifle container dated from 1945 and mounted it to my wall, and I plan on using it as shelves. Has anyone got good ideas for shelves that will look good in here? Or even any other modifications ect I can do to it?

Needs help wiring amp-sub! Stuck in protect mode..

6 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Please help? I just installed a legacy la590 ( https://www.amazon.ca/Legacy-Performance-Channel-Bridgable-Amplifier/dp/B00005Y6OL ) to a single alpine type R12 ( https://www.crutchfield.com/S-Lphsd7pkq3N/p_500WR1522D/Alpine-SWR-1522D.html ) Exactly those models... Im using 8 guage wire.. the amp turns on with the radio telling me my remote/power/ground is ok, but as soon as i connect my speaker wires it goes into protect mode and wont give me anything. This is not true for the RCA cables Basically i can connect everything except the speaker wires, as soon as i connect the speaker wires, the amp goes into protect. Im not very experienced but i think i matched up the sub-amp ok.. or is this an impendance/ohm problem? Maybe im not wiring them correctly? i bridged the two outside ports (+,-) of the woofer, and connected the two middle ones together with a banana connector thingy. basically a wire. following the drawing on the amp i matched the two outside ports with that of the sub, bridging them... did i do something wrong? I havent used this set-up before, so the speaker could actually be damaged but as far as i can tell its in good shape.. Any help is greatly appreciated :D I have it wired up like in the picture, except my speaker says 2ohm 2ohm near the ports not 4ohm 4ohm. Using speaker wire to connect the sub to the amp.
