Is there a way to hide the red of IR cameras? I have indoor/outdoor IR camera's outside my house but the IR's are so red you can easily see them in the dark. I don't want people to see them (mostly because then they will know which areas have blind spots or try to break/disable them). anyway to do this or is there any type of security camera that has IR but isn't so noticeable?

New Homeowner toolkit

Recently got my own house so I'm tooling up. No more stealing pop's tools. Saw this Metabo set and thought, 'thats nice for home DIY'. (PowerMaxx BS Quick Pro + PowerMaxx SSD) Costs £200 (~$240 USD). What drill features are useful or a waste of money? For me a DIY drill needs some speed control and a clutch to avoid murdering screws. DESU not sure why I need an impact driver but they seem to excite people. Its the small battery version so it should be lighter and easier for amateur DIY, I don't see the need for the giant batteries and power. I might get a separate corded hammer drill for concrete but that's a rare need. Other basic stuff: > Spirit level > Some spanners > A screwdriver (got a ratcheting Bahco 808050 )

Restoring a coffee grinder.

Hi /diy/ today I started restoring a coffee grinder. It was mounted on a piece of wood, which I removed before I took this shot. It's supposed to hang on the wall. While I was renovating my kitchen it was outside and the coffee inside spoiled so I wanted to take it apart and get it completely clean and usable again.

What to build with these materials?

12 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
As you can see in pic related I have all these building materials and just general crap available to me. What do you suggest I could build with it? I have the vague idea of wanting to build a small greenhouse or cabin/shelter(in the spot of the top first pic) that I can use to escape the distracting modern life or to relax in "outside" (hearing the birds chirp, seeing plants around, hearing people, seeing stars at night, doing writing or prayer in a distractionless/peaceful enviroment, sleeping etc.) while still being somewhat protected from the elements. However I am open to any other suggestions that seem interesting. I might also set up some aquaponics on the outside. Thank in advance.

>people claim diy is cheaper than buying >forget last that you have to spend 3 grand on tools >for one project and never touch them again >finished product doesn't look nearly as good as shitty chink product with even shoddier construction and workmanship When will the diy is cheaper and better meme end?

Patching power into USB-C

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey there /diy/ I'm trying to patch power into a USB-C cable being used for DisplayPort alternate mode. I was planning on getting two of these https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10013707/2412400-u3-206-smt-type-usb-3-1-type-c-female-socket running one of these cables to it https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-DisplayPort-Chromebook-Thunderbolt-3840x2160/dp/B01EXKDRAC and then soldering a typical USB's power rails to the second female jack for power. Is there anything wrong with this plan? Any easier way to do this? I'm trying to run a USB-C monitor without the proper cables (due to the fact that I fucked up when purchasing it but w/e).

Hey guys, tl;dr story: >want dog >work in home with big yard which remains open to the street on working hours. So I want a dog, but i dont want it to disturb patients or escape while Im working in other room. How do I go on building a fence for it? I was planning on buying something like pic related, but maybe you guys have an I dea for a better more cost efficent way to do it? Lighting a logo.

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I'm experimenting, looking to build custom lights in the near future for desk, walls shelving. everywhere. I mocked up my logo for the 1st time with copper wire soldered together, not sure where to go from here. The only thing i can think of right now is cutting copper wires and putting them as a pattern inside shapes, the cast in resin and shine leds thru it. Any one have a good suggestion? Also lighting general!

hey /diy/ how do I tap out about an inch hole in plastic? It's not too thick and it feels like ABS it's for my old fightstick, I'm going to mod it with a modern pcb that supports all the new consoles so I can use it with my pc and ps4 instead of buying a new one, the hole is for the usb port- the usb port housing needs just shy of an inch in diameter to fit (and then 2 small screw holes but that's not going to be any big deal compared to something around an inch) really don't want this to crack, what kind of bit should I use? Or should I just try to melt it with a soldering iron (will be sloppy, but at least it won't crack)
