Best build to live in

10 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey guys, I'm wondering what would be the best kind of cabin or structure to build in the Washington mountains. The factors I'm looking for in order of importance is 1) Self Sustainable {will be off grid but still want it to have electricity, water, sewage, and a way to manage temperature}, price {think more value for the money rather than keeping things dirt cheap}, and 3) aesthetic {I want it to look nice and unique but I also find beauty in form and FUNCTION}. With all that in mind please feel free to post whatcha think. I love creativity so go wild but remember I don't want to put something in that doesn't serve an important purpose.

Can I build a Langstroth or Kenyan Top Bar hive out of 3/4" plywood. I want to save a couple hundred by building my own. Should I just buy a hive instead?

What's /diy/'s verdict on multitools? Should I just buy a couple knipex, a knife and a multi bit screwdriver for the same price?

Help please!

This might be a really noob-y question, but I can't really find a concrete answer online... How do I turn a 3.3V signal into a 5V one? Theoretically, a simple transistor should do the trick, but for the life of me I can't find a schematic online. Surely there needs to be some decoupling capacitors or whatever, right..? I don't even fully grasp what a "decoupling capacitor" is :-/ Alternatively, where do I gain the knowledge to be able to plan this kind of simple stuff myself and not have to rely on online schematics or help from anonymous strangers?

spent $10k on baskets to hold parts. The problem is the baskets all have burrs and the burrs scrap the parts. The scrapped parts are scrap

Hey dudes, I'm making a deadlift platform and I was wondering which of these two "designs" would work best. The main goal is to dampen sound but my gym is in the basement with concrete floor so I'd also like to minimise vibrations. Please note that the sketches are in no way to scale and yes, there will be a thing in the middle to stand on.

How do men shit on these seats

13 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I can't take a shit without my dick rubbing under the toilet seat and touching the rim. And if I just hold my dick while I'm pooping I can't pee while I'm bending my dick at 90 degree angles so it doesn't touch the rim. I definitely can't poop if I've got a semi chub I rent this house so I don't want to buy a whole new toilet. Do they make anything to solve this problem? Im sure this has to be a big issue for men across the globe

Hey /diy/, I'm relatively new to CNC machines and bought a CNC3040D with USB from China. I got everything set up, works with Mach3, but today during a longer cut (roughly 1 hr in), it suddenly went completely off its path. It was cutting the F in the bottom left of the pic, too far out, too big and it went way too deep. I have no idea why. Im using Mach3 over USB2 with a Laptop running Windows 7 on mains (Power settings set so it never sleeps away) What am I doing wrong? The laptop?

Vapourization Heating Element

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /diy/ Currently I'm working on a heating element in a mineral-oil vapour machine. I've managed to calculate how much energy i need per milliliter of oil in order to evaporate it - i plan on contacting the fluid with the resistance wire via a wrapping it around a lamp wick surrounding a wooden dowel ( shitty MS-paint example included ) - I plan on having the ends dipped in the oil , heated progressively as it gets wicked to the center ( elevated ) then vapourize at the pinnacle, as to prevent the wick burning. My question is - How do i know how much oil can be saturated on the wick at any given time given the contact point at the bottom, or just general saturation? -At what rate does mineral oil move up the wick? I couldn't find any resources online for those questions

Siding over old wood siding

7 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hi all. Going to do some vinyl siding this spring over my existing wood siding. The house is old, and the studs are certainly not 16"o.c., nor are they regular. Finding them is next to impossible. To make things better, the old siding is covered in lead paint, the city knows about it, and if I remove the siding, I have to pay a specialist to deal with the 'environmental hazard'. So, I am not unfamiliar with siding new construction. But with this... what do I do as far as wraps, and also I'm not dealing with a flat surface. What do to flatten surface? And I'm certainly not likely to be nailing directly into a stud... is the siding and sheething enough bite to nail into?

What are the best DIY projects that you can do on a budget? I've already taken up whittling and gardeniny, but some variety would be nice. Any ideas? I tried Googling but all I got were some shitty pinterest ideas for women. I'm trying to keep busy because of >muh depression.

So I'm getting ants in my apartment. They are almost entirely on my counter tops. I have sprayed Ortho Home Defense Max in all the perimeters of the home. For the countertops I put lemon oil fucking everywhere. That was a week ago, and I'm still getting these little fuckers. Any tips?

trisodium phosphate...what do you guys think about it? I was planning to start using it in my laundry and possibly for washing dishes. Any recipes for either of these welcome.

Hidden Cam/Mic

What camera do people use in those PUA videos where they go onto the street and record themselves talking with people? Any advice for a Mic/camera that is small enough to attach to clothing and go unnoticed? How do you set it up?

I recently bought a foot rest for my computer desk. pic related. but i wanted to put some sort of memory foam pad on it so that itll be super comfy. the only problem is that whenever i search for custom cut memory foam material all i come up with is mattresses. some of the few places that do custom cuts that i have found have reasonable prices, but the shipping ends up being about twice as much as the foam alone. is cutting up the inside of a memory foam pillow my only choice? how would you go about doing this?

How Do I Open A Small Door With Light Sensors? I want to shine blue light on a light sensor and make it open a small Door. But I don't know where to start or how to do it. Hey /diy/ I've always been interested in learning how to tinker things from electronics to mechanical parts. How would you all recommend I start off to learn how to tinker? It seems like a cool and useful hobby.

Angle grinders, of the pneumatic kind.

11 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
So, been working robotic welding recently, and I have noticed that I do a lot of grinding, more than usual. I use my electric corded and cordless grinder, but of course they wear out over time, due to the brushes. Was thinking, is it worth getting a air angle grinder? Does anyone have experience with them? I asked around my shop, and no - one has ever used a 4" angle grinder.
