How necessary is RF shielding in a PC case?

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I'm planning on building a SFF HTPC in pic related. The issue is the case is essentially a plastic shell; the original RF shield also doubled as a heat spreader for the motherboard which will be removed. I understand it's government regulation for commercially sold devices but how important, really, is it for electronics to be RF shielded during personal use? The best I can do is line the inside with aluminum foil but is it worth the effort? How remote are the risks?

RTL-SDR tips

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
/ham/ fags get in here, I need your expertise I've started an astronomy project with few of mine collage friends a few months ago. The idea is to build a radio telescope for observing and counting meteors The principle is >We tune to a far radio source >Meteor trail deflects the source >we get reception >meteor detected We got some cheap RTL-SDR-s and OrangePi's of AliExpress and already have tested the basic principle. We tried a simple dipole as an antenna but were probably going to make a Yagi The question is : How can I program my OrangePi to receive and measure data from only one frequency from an SDR. I know what to do if I could get a stream of dB values (a simple Python/C code) but how can I get that sort of data ? I heard that LabView could be a good software for that but I have no idea how to use it. Help please Also, what antenna would be the best and how could we isolate the antenna from background noise. We've used a simple coax bazooka dipole, and although it does the job the noise is unbearable and we can only see bigger meteors HLAP

So, my ex's kids somehow got to my hard drive out of my laptop and fucked up those brass pins.. a couple snapped off, and I am very pissed because my whole life was on that thing. Took it to a repair shop and the clueless old lady told me there's nothing that can be done to fix it... is this true? Please tell me there's something I can do. Thank you.

Guys/galls, I need some help sourcing this material for a little kinky project. Any ideas, what those parts are called in english, please? I'm from Germany and here they are called "Ringkloben". Strange word in german already, no idea how to find them, I need a supplier who offers different forms than the one I'm showing you, which is pretty ugly and too small for my purpose. Thanks a bunch!

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /diy/, me and my buddy are planning on building a garage for work on cars/building shit. It's going to be out of an old barn we are doing some spring cleaning soon and stockpiling it with tools. What I want to know is the best way to prepare the inside and outside of the barn. (pics will be added later since I am not at the barn now will be later in the week) Also what are some tools and equipment that's necessary for any shop, and also specifically working with cars/metal/wood. pic is not actual barn but related, looks around this old if not older the house was built 100+ years ago and the barn is built with poles.

Bug Out Van Conversion

27 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I just got a 2001 Dodge Van that I intend on turning into a liveable space so that I can save money on rent. This is something that I've thought about doing for years and have plenty of ideas, but I was wondering if anyone here on diy has any ideas to share as well. The only thing that worries me about the conversion is setting up the solar panels and wiring all the electrical stuff. I don't intend to go crazy with mods or even carpentry. I just want to get it liveable.

>Need to replace just 2 windows on a 20 year old house >"Durrrr we don't have this window size anymore" >Costs almost the same as replacing all of the windows in a house Can someone please explain to me this scam? I see brand new houses with almost the exact same windows being used. I'm seriously just going to fuck all and do this shit myself, I refuse to pay some fat fuck contractor $10k just because 2 out of 30 windows went to shit.

Hey /diy/ I just moved into my first apartment and want to add a shelf into this gap in my kitchen. Problem is that i never done anything handy-man in my life and dont know where to start. Can i get some advice?
18 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hi /diy/ I'm an engineer and want to do handy man work on the side part time for some extra cash, how should I go about this? I don't have any handyman experience. I could do some work for free/ volunteer to get experience, but I feel like that would make me a total cuck. So I'd rather not do it that way. Problem is, why should anyone pay me to fix something around there house if I don't have prior handyman experience?

Bed Bugs

7 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I am a student living in an apartment on my university campus. There are two floors, with three students living on each floor, and the entire downstairs is overrun with bed bugs. It's fucking disgusting. The university has already called a fumigator in twice, but clearly their methods are ineffective because you can SEE THE FUCKING BUGS CRAWLING ALL OVER ONE OF THE MATTRESSES UGH. The two dudes that used to sleep in that room hardly keep anything in there anymore, and we've more or less quarantined the entire carpeted floor. One of them lives in a closet under the stairs like Harry Potter. The other sleeps on the couch, and neither complain. I want to take the matter into my own hands. The whole situation is very sad. DIY Pesticide. Are there any chemicals, legal or illegal, that I should try out? If I go down there, should I burn my clothes afterwards? Is there a safe way to fumigate? My budget is like, $100 max.

My neighbor has this thingy majig in their backyard. It's basically a tin foil bowl tied to a wooden stick with a string. It was about 10 feet closer to the camera for a while before they moved it to where it is now today. Pic related I'll zoom it in if requested.
