making an aluminium key by myself

39 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: DSC_1272.jpg]
Sup /diy/, I was pretty bored so I decided to make an aluminium key with some scrap I had in the basement. Place your bet! a) OP achieves it b) OP fails like a newfag c) due his frustation OP makes an aluminium knife and cuts his veins and burns his house down Also, the only tools I'll have are: a saw, a dremel with shitty bits, a drill and some sandpaper/polisher. We'll see the results soon!

Wanna build a lap-steel guitar, not just cause i want to have a lap steel guitar but i want to learn as much as i can about electric guitars. I dont care about the looks, just functionality, want to build as much as i can myself and i want to spend as few as possible (student) Will try to do it as simple as possible Here are my questions: >1. As i want to learn as much as i can about it, i want to add as many mods as possible. Things like a kill switch, a tone knob and a volume knob. Any other ideas for things i could add? >2. According to youtube videos it's not hard to wind a p90 pickup myself. Could i just use regular magnets or do i have to use special magnets? should i get the components or a pickup winding kit for around 20 bucks? which would be cheaper? >3. Is there any way to build the machine heads myself with basic home tools? (this'll probably be the hardest part, if its even possible without 1000 hours of hard work) pic related, random lap steel guitar

So I recently got my first jigsaw. The exact one in this pic. It's nice, handy. Does a great job, but I have one problem; cutting in a straight line. This shit has a laser sight and all, I know it's me that's the problem. My question is: does woodworking get easier with time? Obviously I would assume practice makes perfect, but I just need some reassurance. I literally started working with wood a week ago, and have absolutely zero prior experience.

Hey /diy/, i just got my first arduino board, i'm thinking about making a space ship.... anybody know where i should start? I'm not trying to make it strong enough to carry me to space, but i at least want to make it carry my dog (he's a black lab) I have a little experience in electronics (i modded an xbox original once (tried to do my 360, but couldn't figure where the dvd drive was??) ) so i think i have most of the electronics side down what i need help with is figuring out how to store oxygen in a liquid form. but what really troubles me most is actually getting back from either venus or mars. idk, i think i might need another arduino board for the lights TL;DR >WELCOME TO /DIY/

My friend told me it was possible to connect a capacitor to a USB wire and cause it to fry the motherboard by having it build up enough electricity from the computer and then having it expel a surge of electricity back into the computer. Is this really true? What are the finer details of this? I googled it for awhile and found almost no mention of it.

Im looking for some advice. I moved a few years ago and for that time I have stored many boxes of books in my basement. In that time I have also had a bit of a mouse problem. Some of those boxes were open and mice made their way in there at some point. There is no damage to the books but there are droppings in some boxes and I want to know if there is anyway for me to sanitize the books because I really want to save them. Most are paperbacks but there are at least 50 nice leather bound books as well. Does anyone have any ideas or do you think I should throw them out?

Trying to make mushrooms over here, i'm having somebody walk me through everything because he's just a walking encyclopedia on growing them. Anyways. I've bought the wrong jars and i can't use them. I have two choices, either cut the glass off of the top of the jars to make them suitable for use or use them for DIY. Anyways, any ideas on what to do with these jars? Thinking something along the lines of a mood light would be good.

Does /diy/ favor a particular brand of tools? I never had a problem with hitachi, But I only really used their routers and I liked it best out of all the ones I've used.

Anyone willing to give me a tutorial on this?

I love smoking cigars and want to smoke while playing online poker. Now I don't want the smell to get in every pour of my house. How do I remove cigar smell from the house? Are there buyable/makeable devices for this problem?
