Tips on cutting plexiglass, /diy/? I'm building a guitar and I'm just about ready to start on my pickguard. I'm using the old (Starcaster) pickguard as a template, eventually I'll bevel the edges with a Dremel tool.

Hey, /diy/. I want to get into the scrap metal business. I already have a pickup truck in good condition that I could use. The problem is, I don't know where to begin to search for places to sell scrap to, or even where to find any scrap. If any of you guys have experience with scrapping, could you give a newbie some help and tips? Also, scrapping general.

So I'm looking into either buying or building a pc specifically for HD video editing. I'm not trying to spend more than 1,000, and everything I find on review sites keep giving mixed signals. What would be my best route for budget HD editing?

Metal protection recommendations?

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 20130719_001632.jpg]
This piece of metal is for the oil cooler on my bike, it's positioned at the front and made of steel/chrome, some of the chrome is flaking off and I'm wondering what I could do to preserve it and stop it from rusting as the previous pipe on there corroded and leaked through. So, it's steel/chrome, it gets high temperature because it runs the oil through, and it's at the front of the motorbike which gets exposed to the elements (I ride through winter, the roads get salted). Ps. Live in the UK so be careful with brands, if you can list generic names so I can find something suitable over here. Thanks!

Hello DIY I have a mad-scientist project in the works. I'm going to be spending 24 hours at a tent/farm party outside ottawa next weekend, and I'm wondering if it will work. My math says it will, but others are saying it wont. Now then, here's my project: a 45-Watt peltier-based fridge connected directly to a car battery rated for 500CCA How long will the fridge run? I have it calculated that it could supply for little over 100 hours, but I cant confirm. I just need to be sure it will last 24 hours, and thats all. The battery will not be needed to start an engine after.

Sup, /diy/ >Briefing I'm thinking about opening my small business selling imported goods basically Online (E-commerce), although I'll rent a small physical place to obey my country laws, and store some of my goods. I have a small hatch car which I plan to use to make delivery when they're geographically close to me and also more profitable than hiring a 3th part company like FedEX. >Actual questions. Since I'm starting from the Web to real world, I need to get a professional site to look trustable. I already have a domain (.com.br) People usually avoid buying from small sites without references, they usually google the company looking for other people opinions who had made any kind of purchase from said company. >How do I get positive reviews at first? >Do I have to pay for it? Is it illegal? >Where to get references? >Can I use that script that makes google put my webpage as 1st result for some results?

raw sewage in basement after flood

A friend of mine recently had his basement flooded when a massive thunderstorm hit the city (pic related, that’s a commuter train), and the sanitary sewer on his street backflowed into his house. He was able to pump out all of the water and clean the basement up, but he’s concerned that the aggregate base (the gravel) under his floor may have trapped some unwelcome protozoa. He wants to bring somebody in to take samples from the aggregate base to figure out if that needs to be sanitized as well. I know there are some environmental engineers on here, so hopefully one of you may be able to point me in the right direction. Where can I find a company that could do an environmental assessment on the aggregate base under a basement floor?

Hey guys, Would Urban Homesteading be appropriate for this board? Last year I started gardening pretty heavily as a way to stay healthy/save money and I really enjoy it. I hate my job and have $15,000 saved up, so I was considering quitting, moving to some failed city, buying some abandoned/seized property and gardening full time. I guess, as a place to start, what are some good places for an urban homestead? Detroit seems like an obvious, but I imagine the property taxes would fuck me pretty hard. All other discussion is welcome as well, though.

Imagine there is a power generator with a charge controller and two batteries/banks like in the image. How can I charge the primary battery/bank up until it's 100% and have any additional electricity from that generator charge a secondary battery/bank? What do I implement between the charge controller and the batteries? How will power drains on the primary bank work into this? For example if the primary battery/bank drops to 99% it will charge it the percent and switch, if power is being drawn continuously will charging 1% and switching cause any damage? Also if both batteries/banks are at 100%, how can I directly configure Load A to use the power from the generator and not tap the batteries?

/diy/, I could use a hand. I'm working on an electronics project and am needing to replicate a numerical display, blue backlit with black digits. See supplied pic. Now I can handle setting up the hardware and software with the PIC I'm using, I just can't find a suitable LCD display. It needs to be about 2" tall, 1" wide, blue display with black pixels. Does anyone know of any good sources for LCD displays?

So here's the thing DIY\ I found this website that has free online engineering courses, something i'd like to be when i'm older. However my only problem is, its online. My work routine involves me working a lot and then waiting in an area that has no internet, bandwidth and I swear, no phone signal. Is there any way I can make a digital copy or webrip clone of the website so I can do the courses offline, on my laptop?

Smoke for a Hero

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: MaskedHero.jpg]
So I'm planning to cosplay this motherflocker and I want this to be as cool as physically possible. Among the accessories I'm looking into are a sorta of fan-pack I'd wear under the cape to keep it blowing at all times, but that seems easy enough. What I'm having trouble with is smoke bombs. See, I want smoke bombs small enough to holster in a utility belt, but that function with no heat. Dry ice looks like my only option, since titanium chloride smokes are kinda sorta horribly poisonous, but I'm not sure how to get much smoke from a dry ice bomb. Keep in mind, I don't necessarily need an explosion. Anything pocket-sized and safe that'll create enough smoke to be a spectacle is good. So here I am, /sci/ /g/ and /diy/. Any ideas?

Hey /diy/. Hopefully this is within the boards rules. First time visitor so let me know if this isn't the correct place. Does anyone have experience with on demand water heaters? Pictured is our opalia c 13 e water from Saunier Duval After returning to our cottage, it isn't functioning. The pilot light is on and will spark but main burner will not light. All valves are clean and no blockages, injectors are clean and no blockage, inlet pressure is fine, cleaned the lint arrester, voltage is a-ok on PCB and gas valve. Turned to Google for about two hours but mainly French websites are returned and very little resolution on other forums. Got a full arsenal of tools and a few spare parts on hand. Any thoughts?
