I guess this thread was needed to ask small questions that don't deserve their own thread, the last one was quite successful.

As a reminder, questions related to electronics go in /ohm/ >>748012

First question, I need to know the rating of a residual current device in case the house has no grounding point.

I have a 0.030A installed, but I don't know if it needs to be lower.

P.D: This threads may become more useful if everyone who asks a question takes a quick look at the thread to solve another ones question.

If I hook up a 12V .12A fan and a boost converter up to the same 12V 2A power supply, am I going to burn out my fan?

Anonymous 2015-01-09 02:39:21 No.753019

No, since the boosted voltage has nothing to do with the fan input assuming the circuits are assembled in parallel.
The booster uses more current, you might to watch that.

Anonymous 2015-01-09 02:44:51 No.753021

Wired like this

My concern is that the boost will pull more than .12A, which will affect the fan negatively

Anonymous 2015-01-09 02:50:31 No.753023

Yes, that's parallel, even if the booster drains 1.88 amps, as long as the sum of the currents of the fan and the booster don't exceeds 2 amps (the rated current of the PSU) nothing should go wrong.

Cool, expect a thread Saturday with a project.

Looking to hook up the keyboard/phone with a small hinge of some kind.

Is there something out there strong enough to hold it upright when it's engaged, but can still fold nearly 360 degrees? thanks

Hey diy was wondering if I can turn a long 8ft plank of wood into a table with IKEA legs. Common sense tells me yes but I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything obvious. Thanks!

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:14:37 No.753441
Is it rotted?

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:17:51 No.753444
Nope haven't bought the wood yet actually

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:20:02 No.753445
wait, is there already a frame somewhere in there?

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:21:26 No.753446
No I'm planning on just buying a literal slab of wood and drilling legs to it

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:22:34 No.753448
well you need a frame man, otherwise it'll just wobble everywhere 2x2s are cheap

Anonymous 2015-01-10 01:24:58 No.753450
Oh I see, OK I guess I'll just start researching some more. Any idea how to build a frame for a long piece of wood/making the plank stable?

Anonymous 2015-01-10 02:04:05 No.753471
a long frame? Or you can attach it to a stud

Anonymous 2015-01-10 08:24:52 No.753589
Will I regret buying a cheap hot air soldering station.

It would come in handy every once in a while, but I dont want to spend 50$ for it to break after an hour.

Anonymous 2015-01-10 10:13:50 No.753622
I think your biggest regret would be that the really cheap ones sometimes are incorrectly wired and can kill you. Take it apart and check the wiring before turning it on.
