would it have been too difficult for you to look at the catalogue and post in the thread that already exists about learning to forge?

Judging by "thinking in forginf steel and make some swords" I'm going to say yes, that would have been too difficult for him.

I'm inclined to agree, but I felt it was dickish to point out that.

what is it about swords that makes idiots flock to them like flies to shit, with idea that they can just go and "make a sword" because they once played Skyrim, and it was easy there?

>nailing a piece of wood and building a forge are just as easy as one another with no experience/practice or tools
>shitposting because your shitty soldered sword fell apart when you tried to impress your lady friends with it

honestly, OP's post is so terrible, i'm assuming it's a troll...or possibly just not English as a first language and also quite dumb.

if I wanted to design a thread to irritate /diy/, this might well be what I would make.

fuck you.

I'm going to have to get some leather straps and wrap them round a pair of steel bars, take a photo of it, and put "Skyrim lied to me" as a caption on it now.

Damn you, but this must be done...

Blacksmithing requires three things. The right tools, a proper fire, and excellent kinesthetic sense. Being able to control where your hammer is going, how hard it's hitting and how it's going to react in different situations is essential if you want to produce anything quickly and with any sort of quality.. Being able to plan and having creativity are also good to have.

So here's the thing, I want to forge blades and such, and of course I'll start out with the basics of making things like in the books/teachings/etc, but I want to make stuff like you see in Warhammer or fantasy stuff. I love the look of the stuff the Dwarfs use in Warhammer, even though it's bulky as shit and quite unrealistic unless you're a squat, bearded strongman. It looks so fucking cool and one day I will make that stuff and be happy with it.

Fuck, they make hammers out of anvils. I want to fucking do that. I want to make that fantasy a reality. Is that stupid? When I think of that possibility, there's a voice in the back of my head going "that's stupid" constantly.

anvil -> war hammer?

yes. that is a stupid idea.

you could probably make stuff that *looks* like that stuff. like make a fuckass-huge hammer out of aluminum, or whatever.

or you could make a real hammer that gigantic, and put it somewhere for people to look at, but it would be completely impractical.

I guess the aluminum one wouldn't be practical either, it'd just have the advantage that you could pick it up and mess around with it or use it as a costume prop or whatever.

Heh,

In all honesty though building a forge is only 2 steps above nailing.

It has to be real. It would be heavy as hell, but yeah.

Yes, that's stupid. It's called fantasy for a reason. Reality is awesome though, just really, really hard.

Try "The Complete Bladesmith" by Jim Hrisoulas. Best starter manual there is.

What you would need to do is to weld a few bits of sheet into an anvil shape, then it looks like an anvil, but might even be light enough to carry.
