How fat do you have to be where running is not a good idea anymore? I don't want to get into specifics but I'm 29 and obese, and fairly sedentary. BMI of 36. Height is 5'7". I want to get into running but started Couch 2 5 K and got really bad shin splints on the first day of Week 2 (ie. 90 second runs). It's pathetic.

I bought a full on 80 dollar Javelin. Then I realized, I have to walk 50 meters or so every time I throw it to recover it. And I do sprints 3 times a week for 20 minutes anyway in order to stay fit and strong etc. So now what I do is I throw the javelin, and then do an all out sprint to get it and I drop a cone down to measure how far it went at the end. I do about 15 throws and sprints in 20 minutes. It is really good exercise, you should consider trying it.
