Hey /fit/ I wanted to bike to my work rather than drive. It's about 20 miles and I never really biked much before. What kind of bike should I get for distance like this? It's mostly road but some off-road stuff (Mostly just minor trail not like in a mountain or anything like that). How do I interact with cars on my route? I mean like do I need to be on the road, will I need to fight other cars on the road or do people respect a bikes right to be on the road? As a side question how well does biking translate into running? If I'm biking 40 miles a day will it help out running ability or does the cardio not translate?

I've done some MMA and I have several friends who work in construction and the like and all of us have found that people who go to the gym can't really perform. In fights they don't seem to hit that hard, when you wrestle they don't seem that strong and at work they can't keep up with fat bastards in their fifties and if they have compete with a farmer who's bone and sinew they don't stand a chance. I don't get why this is though. There are probably buff dudes who're really strong but most of the time it does seem like big gym dudes are useless outside the gym and I don't know why that would be.

I have been lifting a little over a month. I weigh 165 and am around 20% bf. I was benching 165 2×5 and 1×5+amrap. It was the amrap I failed, getting 4 reps instead of 5 or more. I have been increasing my bench by 5-10 lbs per session, expecting to get here soon so I'd be listing closer to my actual limit, but the failed sets feel pretty bad. Anyway I guess I increased all my other lifts so it could be worse.
