Powerlifting

Powerlifting thead! Anything and everything powerlifting. Your total, what program you are on, what you've done before, things you've learned recently, any questions you have, even theories if you've got them! I'm just a beginning lifter and don't know my 1 rep maxes, so I won't bothering sharing my total. However, I've been doing a fair amount of research on Westside Barbell recently, not because I plan on using their methods (no need at this stage for that kind of complexity in my training), but because I like learning about the things I'm doing. I have a theory about why using bands and chains work so well for them. Most of them use gear, squat suits and such I mean, in competition. Suits store elastic energy, making the lifts easier, thus the higher totals. Now, I've I'm understanding how the suits work correctly, they have the most potential energy at the bottom of a squat, because they are the most compressed. This means a geared lifter would have the most help from the gear at the bottom of a lift, similar to how chains and bands make the lift lighter at the bottom and heavier at the top. That's why training with chains and bands constantly works so well for them. Does this sound right? I've heard from at least one video that if you don't use gear and want to use their methods, to use chains and bands less than them so you are prepared for how heavy the lift is going to be at the bottom in competition.
