Basically John Phung.
http://www.johnphung.com/blog/2198/my-first-100-raw-powerlifting-meet/

He focuses on one lift per day, tries to set some kind of PR that day, then moves on.

I train in a similar way. You can really get sessions done quick and make good progress if you keep frequency high (6 days/week).

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

That type of training is very viable. I set rep PR's almost every day training the same way.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, here is today's vid.

Hit a squat rep PR (470x6) and a bench rep PR (315x5).

Good for you, lol. My deadlift platform is a horse stall mat and a piece of plywood.

Didn't clean it actually. Just a nice unused room in my basement. There is actually a bar (for spirits) in the corner. Still need to doll it up a bit.

It's where I started. Tons of local meets, and it's the fed that I convinced 5 of my buddies to compete in. Laid back environment, but fairly strict judging on depth, hitching, and heaving. I just have no desire to compete IPF, but who knows.

I'm not on gear, but I might be banned from the IPF for having sex in positions other than missionary and for reasons other than procreation.

Also probably a lot of anecdotal evidence here too because god knows people take "breaks" all the time.

Board presses and/or floor presses with the same grip. Others will swear by JM presses (I personally never got anything out of them aside from sore wrists, but there's plenty of stronger folks who do like them). For heavy stuff at least. Lighter stuff I like swiss bar presses (or DB presses with the elbows tucked and palms facing in, same effective movement) and LTEs.

>then I'll be reading The Long Earth
It's good. Good book. Stephen Baxter is my favourite scifi author, and the influences of the two men can clearly be seen. Baxter isn't one for characterisation, and his ones stand in bleak contrast to Pratchetts. And then in the subsequent books, classic Baxter themes emerge and dominate the book. Hyper intelligent children - as seen in Baxter's Manifold series, specifically in Time - and the trend towards intelligent life, and the ubiquity of it. All these, and indeed the original concept of stepwise Earth, are totally Baxter. And where Baxter is weakest, in creating humour, in fleshing out scenes, in putting more than the most basic of humanity into the pages, Pratchett shores him up making the first book a truly delightful read.

But, as Pratchett declines, by the third entry, he's contributing not much more than a scene or two and his name to the book. The brutality and ruthlessness of existence, another favourite Baxter trope, dominates the earlier humour and narrative causality of Pratchett. I like this, because as I said Baxter is my favourite scifi author as literally no one else has the sheer imagination that he does - it's unique among the contemporary British authors that I know (eg Peter F. Hamilton and the late Iain M. Banks) and when compared to the classic greats of the genre, Asimov, Niven and Clarke, it leaves them in the dust. Yet I do acknowledge his weaknesses.

Baxter is bleak, and most of his work leaves the reader feeling thoroughly down. The morally dark grey and black thrive for a long time, even if they usually don't make it through to the end (see Raft, Manifold: Space and Proxima) reminding us that existance is a challenge and that those of us most competitive amongst ourselves are often the most successful. These themes are seen to a lesser extent in The Long Earth, but they start to emerge in, for example, The Long Mars - where many seeds of tropes planted in the first come to fruition.

2/2

I really liked The Long Earth, but many people come for Pratchett where the reality is they will be gettign mostly Baxter. If you liked The Long Earth, Baxter has some immense reads (the Xeelee sequence comes to mind). However, to truly grasps the majesty of Baxter's vision, one often needs an undergraduate and preferably a postgraduate degree in Physics with a focus on the theoretical. Without this, the stunning feeling of reading a story about a lifeforms that move around in configuration space rather than real space - a concept introduced to this essayist a couple of weeks before in a lecture, and as an entirely heuristic concept - may not achieve the full impact it deserves.

tl;dr the book leads with Pratchett, but don't be fooled, it's mostly the second name, Baxter

So, am I missing anything major? Do I have anything out and out wrong? It's just a list to help me when it comes down to picking accessory lifts to help weak points or repair or prevent imbalances and injuries.

Yates row - DL accessory / mid DL ROM assist / helps stop upper and lower (mainly upper) back rounding / Lat dominant
warm up then 1 all out heavy set or low weight volume. Dangerous if form drops at heavy weights(70% of DL)

Romanian DL - DL accessory / Mid DL ROM assist / Glutes and Hammy / Helps DL form / mid shin to mid thigh / high reps (15-20) for sets

DL stance box squats - DL Accessory(conv. and sumo) / Power off the ground / From box to keep shins straighter for DL carryover / Hips lower than DL maintaining goodmorning position
throughout / Low bar / Lower back and Legs dominant / 1-2 sets high reps combined with other DL/lower back/Leg drive orientated accessories / helps bottom DL position

Deficit deads - helps with power off floor, or to develop more speed lower to over come sticking points higher up.

Rack pulls - top end DL accessory / heavier weight / grip / lockout

Shrugs - Lockout DL accessory

Sumo DL - Work hips and Quads more than conv.

Hammer curls - Biceps / Injury Prevention / muscle embalance repair / biceps can take a beating from heavy deads

Hanging leg raise - Lower abs / Strong core throughout all competition lifts

Weighted Crunch - upper abs / bar in BP lockout position and try to touch ceiling - crunch not situp

Side bends - oblique / 4 inch rom / down up

Ab Pushout - Abs / weight on belly, sink in, push out, 2 count top position / High reps / helps with bracing core against belt

Good Morning - Lower back / Help maintain neutral spine/ Good Dl carryover / Low volume medium weight / not too often
