15" 4K Display

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
A friend gave me his sons laptop as punishment for throwing it down the stairs when he got pissed playing minecraft. The thing is pretty much fucked, but it has a 4K display, 15" which I have tested to be functional. Is it worth salvaging, and making it into a monitor, it or flip the display on ebay? I already have a control board that works with it.

occasionally i get a popup for an update that says i have a recommended update, i figured it was fake since my system is up to date and it was saying it wanted to install some yahoo and chrome bullshit. Anyways ive traced the process to here and im wondering if i can just delete it or if ill need to do something else.

Bitlocker

How secure is bitlocker? I feel that I have to ask this question, seeing how this is a built-in feature in Windows. Naturally I have some things on an external storage device that can absolutely ruin me. From what I've seen Bitlocker can be compromised by a cold boot attack, but seeing as I'm using an external device this seems like a non problem. All things considered I think my files are safe and if anyone wanted to ever make use of my storage device they would need wipe the content. what are your thoughts? >all welcome <3

What if?

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I was doing some thinking, finding out ways on how to track down my PC if it gets stolen and after I've read some stuff out there I thought of this; What if I RAT my own PC, set up a server on my laptop that's going to be used when and if my PC gets stolen? That way I can see where my PC is, what the person who stole it is doing and etc.. Thoughts?

Do NOT use Thermal Paste.

56 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Thermal paste is a meme. I never use thermal paste because it can actually damage the motherboard if it seeps over the cpu. There is literally no point in using it if you have proper cooling in your case - other than taking a risk and letting it damage your motherboard. Im pretty reputable as I own my own local computer shop and have been building machines for the community for years. My question is, why the hell do people use it?
