Ryzen Performance

Serious question, what the fuck was AMD thinking? Did they release this knowing full well how bad it was? Their best Ryzen CPU is $500 and loses to a $340 Intel CPU. I assume with all the talk of how they rigged their pre-release benchmarks, and how they were pushing preorders, they actually knew how bad it was, but they wanted to shovel this shit down our throats and run away as fast as they could.

Can they recover?

227 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I don't see how they can possibly recover. I think this was their last shot. My take is they'll just slowly wither until one of the big most relevant players like Samsung or Qualcomm decides to buy them out.

Is there really any good reason to use C over Python?

23 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Just because something is simple doesn't mean it's simple to a disadvantage. I've been writing Python for about 8 months now and I fail to see where it would be advantageous to un-abstract everything If you're required to do something for the code to work then it's just redundant and you may as well make it that way by default So you can manually manipulate pointers. The pointer itself doesn't do anything, that's just a method of accomplishing something. I don't even understand why anyone would want to do this >speed That doesn't make the language inherently good. This issue is alleviated as soon as we find a way to make languages like Python precompiled. Also other languages are just slower because most of the time we care about the negligible speed so little I'd really like to learn C but it just feels like walking upstream. It's like building a house by manually chopping down trees and harvesting the iron to make the nails, there's tried and true methods of doing this from people that are better than me and I can't see any reason to do it myself

How come even the times AMD has vastly superior GPUs to Nvidia, they still sell less? Like the HD 5770 & HD 5870 that pooped on the GTX 480 by 30% better price/performance, and the HD 7970 that pooped on the GTX 580 by over 50% better price/performance, and still pooped on the GTX 680 which came out a year later but people still bought overpriced 580s and 680s anyway. Even when the 9000 series launched which was literally double the performance per dollar of overpriced FX shit, they still didn't overtake then.

Bjarne tragically dies, and he's named YOU as his successor to dictate the direction, implementation, and doctrine of C++ What do you change about the language?

Why are all monitors garbage?

32 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
So I was looking into buying a second monitor because I realized 60Hz is trash, and one of the criteria my friend alerted me too was IPS versus TN. I never thought this mattered that much, but after looking into how my TN panel handled color I realized I've gotten too used to shitty, dated colors, and so I only looked for monitors with IPS panels. The only problem is, there doesn't exist a single IPS monitor that is less than 4ms response time. 4ms isn't bad, but my current TN monitor only costed $129 and gives me 2ms response time. So why are monitor manufacturers so autistic? Why can't they make an IPS monitor with less than 4ms response time, even at 60 fucking Hz?! tl;dr fuck monitors
