When did you realize that Linux on the desktop is a waste of time?

Ok /g/, so I installed arch on my netbook and I'm really thinking of just using a tiling window manager, or at least something that gives me the ability to do everything without ever relying on the touchpad. I'd like to know your opinions on which should I install and why.

I'm using Comodo Firewall but it becomes more annoying and broken after every update. What does /g/ uses for firewall?

>have 9400 GT >install fedora >install proprietary nvidia drivers >suddenly >unstable X >lost opengl contexts >freezing all the time >locks up for 30 seconds if I switch or close accelerated programs >fucking unusable desktop >uninstall drivers >everything starts working again Why? Is there an actual explanation for this? Or is it just that Linux is shit?

Good morning /g/, I come to you today with an inquiry on proper cable management. This is my computer. As you can see, I have extremely shitty cable management. 1. This wire provides power for the rear fan, but it's too short and it awkwardly stretches over the mobo. Is it plugged into the wrong thing? 2. This is the 12v cable for the CPU, but it goes over the graphics card and looks horrible. How should I go about hiding this? 3. What in the world do I do with all these extra cable I don't use? Any cable management tips would be greatly appreciated.

/g/ I really like Fedora but the latest release is always broken with many bugs. I tried using Scientific Linux as a desktop and while it's very stable and smooth, many packages are very old (Firefox 10) and some don't even exist (Skype). I was thinking of always running the previous release of Fedora as a middle ground. I know they support the last two releases with updates. My question is: is it more stable? Anyone doing this? Is it worth it?

Someone made a thread about making an ITX case yesterday. I tried to make a smaller one. The result: a 10.5L case, suited for water-cooling the PSU using a 2x40mm radiator, as the heatsink clearance is only ~50mm. Feel free to suggest an improvement. Also, the case is translucent just for SketchUp. Dimensions HxWxD: 142.2 x 218.4 x 338.5 Fans: 2x 40mm, 2x 60mm, 2x 140x12mm, 1x 120mm Drives: 3x 2.5", 1x 3.5"
