I am staring my second year of Software Engeering course, for my 3rd year I am expected to find a industrial year placement within the field.
I currently live in the UK. I would love to get a job abroad - Preferably Norway/Sweden, although it is not a necessity.
I am asking you, do you know any good companies that have their offices abroad, experience with those and how to apply?
I would be grateful :) In the meanwhile, I'm applying for local companies.

ITT we talk about and compare our personal security measures.
>refuse to email someone unless they have a public key for encryption
>system is completely encrypted, requires a 25 char passphrase from the boot menu
>automated weekly 3 pass wipe of unused disk space
>only access internet via VPN that doesn't store logs, which I set up myself on an encrypted VPS paid for anonymously
>only open my browser in a VM with all the usual add-ons; adblock, https everywhere, noscript, requestpolicy, etc
>hidden encrypted partitions on all of my external storage devices, with only gay porn saved on my surface encrypted partition
>boot TAILS from a thumb drive whenever using an unfamiliar computer
This is all I can think of for now. There are so many little things and basic rules I follow which have become second nature.

Hi /g/, i bought a samsung galaxy tab 2 7" recently, and when i tried using my in–ear headphones, the audio was awful,no highs, low voice volume when watching movies. And, when i tried my cheap normal headphones, it worked great. I guess its something that can be solved with some equalization. Can /g/ suggest me an android movie player and mp3 player that doesnt sound like shit when i use in ear headphones? Or a solution in general?

I'm looking for a little help in buying or finding a power supply for a Saitek controller.
I picked this up from a shop that basicly sells junk today. It's a Cyborg Evo Force. unfortunatley it didn't come with a power supply, so I'm looking to buy one. Using a universal 12v PS I've got it to light up, and get it noticed in my PCs USB drive, however it doesn't seem to recognise the device, the lights flicker and a couple don't turn on.
The device says it takes a 24v Input, and maximum of 18w. I'm wondering if theres anything else to look for besides the size of the cable's plug.

How is internet payment processing done in your country?
I want to provide payment options for German and American customers. How do they typically buy online? Do they have to use paypal crap that freezes accounts?
In Poland there are 2 typical payment experiences:
a) Wire transfer. Seller gives bank account number, then you login to your bank and send to their account number. It's free and takes 15 minutes to same bank and 1 day to a different bank. Instant transfer costs 1.5$ and takes 15 minutes to all banks. Seller sees your real name and address.
b) You use a payment processor like PayU (allegro ebay clone) or Przelewy24. They have accounts in all banks and you send to them for free, in less than 15 minutes and they resend to seller. It's works like that 1.5$ 15 minutes transfer but for free. Unlike paypal they normally don't store money, just transfer it.
Also, there are no chargebacks, never. Can you explain this chargebacks bullshit? I've heard that it causes extreme problems. How it's possible to cancel a payment?
Also, how do Visa or Mastercard payments work? I've heard that card number and home address are super secret because anyone can use them to spend money from account?

Is there a guide for mice?
I'm looking for one "gamer" (not that I like the word, but I guess that's what they are when they have more than 2 buttons), will also be used for browsing. For the record, I have a Roccat Kone (pic related), but it seems to be dying (double click 30% of the time instead of single click, well that acts weird, etc.). No real budget, I guess between 50 and 100€ would do, if it can last 5 years or more.

Hey /g/... I'm going to India for six months to work as a sysadmin. In my sparetime and especially during the flight there I will need something to entertain me when I'm not out doing sightseeing stuff.
What I want is a tablet, I would prefer an android one but if you can, try to convince me to get an ipad. I do enjoy my iphone a lot and my friend's ipad seems quite neat.
I will mainly use the tablet for surfing and watching movies (avi), I know getting movies onto my iphone is a pain so I guess the same applies for ipad, hence I'm mainly interested in android.
A plus would be if I could use it for work aswell, I will be handling Cisco equipment.. And I don't know if it's possible but if there's any tablet with a usb outlet that would be neat.. Then I could use a usb->com and then connect to the hardware using a console cable. Not really needed but would be cool if there's any support/app for that.
Which tablet is the best one to get at the moment? I've tried a few android tablets in the past and they all had sluggish performance when scrolling fast etc. I'm sure that have changed with the most recent tablets but I want to be sure that my experience will be fluid.
Going to India for six months, need a tablet (prefer Android).
Which one is the best, what manufacturer and model?
*Can play movies (avi).
*Smooth performance, no or very few fps drops even when scrolling fast.
*Good design (easy to handle, doesn't feel awkward in your hands).
Size: 10"~ (If you can, try to convince me to get a 7" one... I'm uncertain about those, they feel a bit small and smartphone'ish?
Budget: 400-500 USD

Okay /g/ents, I'm upgrading my desktop finally.
I have most of my parts sorted (can post them here if you want), but the one thing I'm stuck on is the CPU.
Normally, I would have chosen the i5 3570K right off the bat (coming from a Core2Duo setup). But my friend is offering me a (brand new) i5 2500 for ~$100 cheaper.
Since this is significantly cheaper than the Ivy Bridge I was considering, I'm trying to determine if the better power efficiency plus ability to overclock is worth the extra money.
I wasn't planning on going crazy with the overclocking (probably to about 4 - 4.2GHz), so what are your opinions?

Yesterday by 3a.m. (GMT) my computer suddenly ran skype which instantly logged into a secondary account I didn't even remember I had. I didn't have skype installed in my computer and the installation ocurred in the backgorund. No notices, no warning windows telling me skype was being installed, nothing. I only noticed skype once it automatically logged me in. Somehow, skype still had both my account info and password.
I googled this problem and all I found was a similar case in june, involving WSUS.
Am I looking at a virus here, or is it this WSUS thing going nuts?

Okay sysadmin /g/entoomen,
What realtime monitoring software do you use? I use iptraf, htop, ps, w, iostat and a bunch of other stuff to monitor what is going on, what users are doing, etc but out of all of those only two are 'realtime' (i.e. they stay active and show you what is happening as it's happening; iptraf and htop)
I'm looking for more realtime system monitoring, especially something like a realtime 'w' to show me everything any given user or user group is doing.
Also, System Administration General!

Hey /g/, any advice in purchasing an electronic keyboard? I've never had one, and I'm mainly interested in it replacing the analog piano since I simply don't have anywhere to put it in my current apartment, but obviously it would be nice if it could interface with the computer properly (MIDI etc). I'd like it to be full-size and have decent polyphony.
I've seen a bunch of keyboards on battlestation threads so I'm sure someone knows their shit when it comes to this. If you have one, what do you have, what to you like about it, what do you dislike etc?
Thanks for any advice.

What do we know about this board?
What did you hear?
Cause it gets great price around where I live, can be found around 75-85€
where for example asrock extreme4 starts at 130€
gigabyte z77x-d3h for 120€
Reviews are great,
it lacks sli support, only crossfire, probably nvidia was greedy
but it has very good vrm and cooling and double nic with one of them being known killer brand
I am not really buying a new rigg, I am just shocked by the price

Greetings denizens of /g/.
I am considering switching distros to something lighter, as lubuntu is just too bloated for me right now.
I use an ASUS EEEPC x101. That's:
>1GHz Intel Atom CPU
>8GB SSD (which leaves me with ~250-800 Megs of free space with Lubuntu)
I don't really have the money to afford a bigger SDD, so I am wondering, what could I possibly install on here that would have debian or ubuntu repos.
I am considering gNewSense, but I feel a bit discouraged by it's lack of Skype.
Picture unrelated, I don't have anything PC-specific.

HTC and Samsung will actually sue Apple over LTE patents and try to get it blocked
"HTC Patents Challenged by Apple Probably Valid, Judge Say"
>“Clear and convincing means something to me,” U.S. International Trade Commission Judge Thomas Pender said yesterday in Washington, referring to the legal standard in determining that a patent shouldn’t have been issued. “I have to be pretty darn certain a U.S. patent is invalid.”
>A victory could let HTC seek an import ban of the latest iPad and even the newest iPhone, if it uses LTE when it’s unveiled as early as next week.
"As 4G patent fight looms, Samsung has nearly twice as many LTE patents as Apple"
>After the latest round in the Apple v. Samsung patent battle went to Apple, Samsung has said it is preparing to sue Apple as soon as it launches an LTE iPhone, which could arrive as early as this month. A new analysis shows that Samsung holds 819 patents for the standard, compared to Apple’s 434.

How did that happen ?

I used to have my headphones hooked up to a volume control headphone jack on a logitech 2.1 setup until the speakers 3.5mm cable stopped working, then I connected my headphones directly to the back of my PC and I noticed a small degrade in sound quality. Since I mostly used headphones with the 2.1 setup, I would prefer to skip the speakers and just get the equipment that was improving the sound quality, which I think a headphone amp would do the job.
After searching for a bit, I came across the Fiio E9 headphone amp. What is your opinion on the Fiio brand? Are they the skullcandys of the headphone amp market? I'm looking for amps in the price range of $100 to $200, currently I have the JVC HA-RX700, but I might upgrade to AKG Q701 or headphones that use around 62 ohms. I would appreciate some suggestions.
Also, I read that if you aren't using the amp connections properly, your sound equipment can get damaged? I've included a pic showing how I plan on using a headphone amp setup. Do the connections look properly hooked up? pic related

My computer freezes. When I stream 1080p videos in any browser it always freezes in seconds. Otherwise, the freezes seem pretty random. It doesn't just freeze for a while, I have to kill the power every single time.
Sometimes when I play a demanding game it freezes instantly, sometimes after a while and sometimes not until I've played it for hours.
Sometimes when I just browse it freezes, and sometimes while using some other software. It never freezes while idle.
I've tried replacing RAM, GPU, HDD & cooling to no avail. When I replaced the cooling system I noticed that the temperatures dropped drastically and thought "this nightmare is finally over", but no, still freezes with the exact same patterns even on low temps. I've also stripped down the hardware to bare necessities, also to no avail.
Tried plenty of different drivers for most hardware. Formatted & re-installed Windows several times on different HDDs, even different version, also to no avail. Still freezes in the same manner.
It first began when I was heavily editing a bunch of vidya during the hot summer (month ago or so). Without monitoring my temperatures, of course. It was after the first time my computer froze that I noticed that my stock i7-3820 went up to ~83 degrees while I was editing said vidya.
Now the question that remains is: is it the CPU, PSU, Motherboard or perhaps some software issue that I'm yet to discover? Do you recognize the problem from my description? Note that it Never freezes in safe mode. Even under high load.
Please help me as I really need to be able to fully utilize my computer for financial reasons. Please!

So, minimal ubuntu install, OR arch install.
I don't like aptitude, however i don't trust pacman (do like it though)
Ubuntu feels like it's getting to big for it's britches while arch appears to be mending the holes in it's shorts (move to systemd, fixing that glibc issue)
Neither one appears to really do tooo much testing before release,
neither one has huge repos, however ubuntu has ppas and arch has the aur neither one is perfect, finding just the right ppa doesn't always work and getting things to work without issues isn't always perfect, however the aur while large is prone to having poorly maintained user packages
so what do /g/ same difference but I'm feeling spineless this morn and require a push. so

I've got a Nexus 7 that is rooted but running stock Rom.
I now want to upgrade it to CM10 ( or maybe AOKP, any advice on which one?)
I do however want to know how I can back up my apps.
On my phone i'd just run titanium backup, but the nexus doesn't come with a Micro sd slot.
Any idea how I can backup and restore apps? Just the apps, not Apps, Rom, kernel,...
Thanks in advance /g/ents

Guys I need some help. I have an ASUS G73JH "gaming" laptop and these are my fucking temps when I have the WoW login screen up, speedfan, and a browser window. I've already cleared out all the dust that I can reach without breaking seals. (I followed a youtube disassembly guide.) What can I do to lower these fucking temperatures? I have a fan blowing on it 24/7 and I have a grill tray set up between two stacks of books so it's sitting on that with room for air flow at the bottom, due to the empty space below the grill tray/between the books.
How can I cool this motherfucker? I hear thermal paste works pretty well but I don't know how to do it Could I trust local guys to do it, and would it void my warranty? Best Buy said it would be like $80 which is fine, but they'd have to ship it out for 3 weeks which is a no-go.
What if I like, put some Ice in a zip-loc in front of the fan so it blows cool air? Fuck I don't know.

I am Hari Seldon. Former First Minister to Emperor Cleon I. Professor Emeritus of Psychohistory at Streeling University on Trantor. Director of the Psychohistory Research Project. Executive Editor of the Encyclopedia Galactica. Creator of the Foundation.
It all sounds quite impressive, I know. I have done a great deal in my eighty-one years and I am tired. Looking back over my life, I wonder if I could have - should have - done certain things differently. For instance: Was I so concerned with the grand sweep of psychohistory that the people and events that intersected my life sometimes seemed inconsequential by comparison?
Perhaps I neglected to make some small incidental adjustments here or there that would have in no way compromised the future of humanity but might have dramatically improved the life of an individual dear to me. - Yugo, Raych ... I can't help but wonder ... Was there something I could have done to save my beloved Dors?
Last month I finished recording the Crisis holograms. My assistant, Gaal Dornick, has taken them to Terminus to oversee their installation in the Seldon Vault. He will make sure that the Vault is sealed and that the proper instructions are left for the eventual openings of the Vault, during the Crises.
I'll be dead by then, of course.

I want to get a new keyboard.
Looking for mechanical, without a keypad.
I'm presently using a Saitek Eclipse, which is performing just fine. The only thing is, that as I find myself playing videogames more - mostly Battlefield 3, Dota 2 and Starcraft 2 - my mouse hand keeps running into the keyboard.
My questions are:
1. What are your experiences and recommendations when it comes to Cherry keys?
2. What are you guys typing with?
Thanks for any input.
