Billy: Hey dad, whats an operating system supposed to do?
Dad: Well Billy, an operating system is supposed to provide an environment where many different kinds of software can run well.
Billy: But Linux, OSX, and Windows 7 do that well! How do I decide?
Dad: Well Billy, you have to now assess what kind of software you're going to be using. Which OS looks the most appropriate now?
Billy: Well, OSX is good for graphic design, but nearly all of its programs also run on Windows 7 or have comparable software also for Windows 7. Linux has a lot of great software, but just can't really compete really with the huge libraries of software for Macs and Windows.
But in terms of number of software available, Windows 8 seems to have the most. It also runs new and upcoming games, and also runs classic PC games while 7 is left in the dust without DX11.
Dad: There you have it son, Windows 8, which is an operating system, runs FUCKING EVERYTHING!!!!
SO STOP BITCHING UNTIL THE OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS CAN COMPETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do you hate macs so much /g/?
I'm not a 'fanboy' and have tried and tested most operating systems out there, so I'm not biased, but I always find myself back on OS X. It's just better in (almost) every way.
First of all the user interface beats any operating system out there, and this can't be denied. It's beautiful and elegant and aimed towards productivity.
Installing applications is easy - just drag them into the applications folder. No need for command line, which helps since I'm not a programmer.
OS X is very powerful and suitable for both advanced users as well as novices, and it gives the user much more freedom than other os's like freebsd and linux.
One thing I can agree on is that they're expensive, but they are aimed towards people serious about their computing.
