>VLC is shit >mplayer is deprecated >mplayer2 is dead with no updates >no other good video players that aren't based on mplayer >mpv is recommended now but you actually have to compile it and it has no GUI and no support from 3rd party devs Why is Linux video development such a non-event? Can't you guys get 1 good video player out there that can compete with MPC-HC? It doesn't even have to be as good, just good enough to replace most of what MPC-HC does and Linux devs can't even do that. When the fuck is Linux going to get a good video player? How come there's no even good guides for Linux playback? P.S. How the fuck do you anime fags on Linux even play anime competently? Do you just realize how shitty your options are and just use what you have because there's no use looking for something better?

Hey /g/, I know next to nothing about programming and server maintenance but I'd like to make and host my own website in the future. What's the best website to learn about server management and maintenance from scratch? I know that I can buy a host but I don't want to do that. Doing it myself will force me to learn.

>work for comcast >going over to some guy's house to setup internet >suburban neighborhood >knock on door >guy's mom opens the door >Hi, come on in, my son's waiting upstairs >go upstairs >room is a fucking mess, two plates on the table, cables everywhere >fat mid-twenties neckbeard sitting in a beatup office chair >he has dual monitors, ricer case with lights and transparent panel >tells me "I could do it myself but the comcast guy said it was necessary to have you come over" >I go over to his computer >seems to be at a tty, not logged in >"can you login for me?" >fat guy begrudgingly logs in >clearly a unix prompt with no X >fat guy thinks I'm confused: "this isn't windows, it's an OS you probably never even heard of called "leenux" and there's no GUI because it's made for programmers and advanced users" >I go over to the keyboard and type 'uname -a' >he's using ubuntu >I hit ctrl-alt-f7 >it works >fat guy:"what are you dooooing" >gnome comes up with all his weeaboo loli porn thumbnails still open >fat guy pushes me away, turns off the computer and starts yelling at me that he's going to report me

According to 14-year-old founders of Menlo App Academy, "Learning to (write computer) code should be like learning to read. Very few people know how to code, but we think all kids should know how." Read more about their ambitious plan to teach more kids how to code. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2013/09/15/change-agents-menlo-app-academy-teen-code-experts/2681077/ Isn't this the sweetest thing /g/?

Which SeedBox does /g/ prefer? if any? I'm using Seed.st and I'm loving it. >$2 a week for cheapest package >sets up in like a minute >30MB/s DL on well seeded torrents >uploaded ~400GB in 72 Hours >26.5 Ratio >Ratio is set for a good number of weeks Feels good. Might upgrade next week. Also private tracker general. Which ones do you use, why etc. etc.

So I bought this phone about 2 months ago (actually on contract, but that isn't the point). It fails to recognise the sim a lot. Like, fails to recognise it's actually there. I've already tried switching the sim and have the same issue. I've also tried taping it in place as some people seem to recommend with no luck. Any ideas how to fix this issue?

Got an Oculus Rift Devkit, /g/. Any questions? I've recorded some videos with the shit-tier commentary you'd expect from someone that browses this board. Let me know if you want to see them.

I'm sure that /g/ gets bombarded with this question all the time but what's the best way to learn security tips and tricks. I would like to learn how to break passwords and things but more for fun and not for criminal shinanigans. Any books or things out there you guys might recommend? Or maybe even websites? YouTube is pretty useless when it comes to this subject. (Pic unrelated)
