No, that's quite ignorant. The only things that have improved are camera quality, better screens and faster processors. These devices did the same things you can do today. They ran applications, browsers and games and many features present in these older devices don't even exist on modern smartphones.

That's terribly inefficient though. We are running out of wireless spectrum as it is, the last thing we should be doing is streaming a thousand copies of the same programme to mobile phones.

The only reason mobile TV failed was because carriers tried to make it a pay service (which is why it succeded in japan, as broadcasters controlled the signal rather than phone companies and devices were nothing more than recievers of the signal).

desu I always found older palm and windows mobile devices more inherently useful and enjoyable to use than newer devices

maybe it's just the novelty of it? applications felt more like actual software instead of just a cheap website front-end, there seemed to be a lot more discrete offerings dedicated to small, specific tasks that did them well and looked good while they did it, there was of course no ads, no walled garden, no app store, no touch keyboard taking up half of the fucking screen requiring you to use a bluetooth keyboard if you want to do anything somewhat productive, no need for third-party software to access the file system, no need to root or otherwise fuck with the underlying system to get it to do what you wanted it to do, and best of all they felt like you were using a real handheld computer, not a shitty facebook toy

to answer your rhetorical question I guess really the only thing holding me back from DDing an old winmo slider would probably be the camera and web access, but if I had to swap back to such a device as long as it had a good battery I could totally live with it, most of my camera use is better done with an infinitely higher quality point and shoot anyway

also, I don't shower in piss, I opt to eat shit from my own hands instead

That's like saying the only things that have improved in modern cars are safety, build quality and fuel economy. What sort of improvements do you expect from a pocket computer anyway if superior screens/processors/cameras don't qualify as 'better'? My phone outperforms my stand-alone camera, GPS or discman/mp3-player by a huge margin and it replaced pen & paper for most applications. The old devices could do many things my phone does now, yes, but WORSE - sorry, I'm not ignorant, I'm just objective.

Just FYI, I don't use Facebook, Reddit, Twitter or basically ANY social media platform (except 4chan, if you want to call it that) and I find today's smart phone software very sufficient. Sure, some apps are badly designed, but as a whole, usability has steadily improved over the years. you replied to our posts with a whiny rhetorical question and bitching about "nostalgiafags", and then answered our replies with typical phonetard "b-but muh specs" shit which literally none of us were discussing in the first place, how did you expect us to react?

not really going to deny that I was shitting on modern smartphone design, I don't really like it, it's not exciting, I don't find it super enjoyable to use, and this isn't even from a nostalgic perspective, I started out on an iPhone 4, but I always had old PalmOS and Winmo devices around for experimenting, often I would use them alongside it for different tasks

>Please give me at least some examples
I explained some of my reasoning in the post you originally quoted, pre-iPhone smartphones were very productivity and business-oriented, more expandable, and ran operating systems that felt more like a "real" computer operating system, and I liked that, it felt like something more than just a shitty means to an end
