Alternative Art/Stylization General

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil. Previous Thread: >>2207977 Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Part of the process is to write 10 pitches and have people tell you which ones they like. The pitches are supposed to no more than 2 or 3 sentences (a rule I routinely broke) so a lot of these are very basic forms of bigger ideas that I have. Let me know which ones you like, let me know which ones you think are stupid. There are themes that you like let me know. If think you my ideas are derivative crap (which I think on a daily basis) let me know. 1. Set in the distant future, post earth, on a mining planet. Most planets are colony worlds founded to support the human military armada. People that live in space are the upper ruling class while people that live on the planet surface live a miserable hard life. War between colony worlds and Armada breaks out and a group low budget ex-soldiers and miners must band together to protect their planet. Giant (real) robot combat. 2. 500 years in the future, Earth is run by one oppressive corporation / government. Biggest form of entertainment is combat between powered humans (convicts?). One super powerful fighter leads the others in a revolt. gladiator meets hunger games. 3. After finding a mysterious alien artifact, a mentally unstable scientist is unsure if the nightmarish things he is seeing and experiencing are a result of his own mental illness or of some alien design. 1/3

Opinions on tracing/bases

So there's this popular artist on deviantArt named Picolo-kun, who does mostly fan-art. This guy has original concepts too, and he's a good artist but he obviously traced one of his work. Does /ic/ condone this behavior? Especially if they have hundreds of other art works that aren't supposedly traced. 100 good over 1 bad sorta deal.

I am 21-years-old. Ever since I was a child, I've always wanted to be an artist. Most specifically, an animator. I never saw myself as a painter or one who can do those super-detailed sketches. Drawing comics is something I've always had fun with, and animation has always been a great passion of mine. This is a drawing of the Flash I did a few weeks ago. It's obviously unfinished. But when I look at it, I think to myself...maybe I'm not cut out to be an artist. I'm not like most artists. I've always loved drawing, but when I was a kid, I never took it as seriously as I should have. I doodled shit, and I always liked it for myself, and never got interested in improving. I took very few art classes, but when I did, I never paid attention. I just did things my own way: No construction lines, no detail, no nothing. When I look at drawings I made when I was in first grade and drawings I made when I was in sixth...it just breaks my heart when I see that I've made no progress. Part of that had to do with me not drawing as much as I should have. While most artists on this board, or even on DeviantArt or tumblr, have kept drawing since they were kids, I drew...rarely. Very rarely. It was only a year ago when I decided to take art very seriously, because I still had dreams of becoming an animator. But the more I look at my art, the more I think...is it too late for me? I draw like a child. Whenever I see all those cringe-worthy Sonic fanart and FNAF fanart of DeviantArt, I laugh at first. Then I think...these people are probably young children just trying to find the basics. What right do I have to laugh at them? I'm an adult who's almost on the same level as them. It just makes me depressed when I think about it. (cont.)

I too often see this shit on here >I don't want to use Twitter >I don't want to use Tumblr >I don't want a Facebook >I don't need DeviantArt You want to promote yourself online, get an art job, or work on your own? You don't like a website or you only want to use one? Too bad, dipshit. All of that is running a business and it means thinking like a businessperson, not going into "artistic integrity" or whatever the fuck you tell yourself. If you want to work in art you also have to think in marketing and business. People like different sites and there are different circles on different sites, you as an artist need to be available on all of them.
