I am going to receive my payment and, as I have started one month ago in an art school and am beginning to learn how to draw. I like to read and write (that’s my main goal and the area of activity on which I invest most of my energy) but decided to expand my knowledge of art to the visual arts, not in a deeply serious mood, but more on a ludic vein. I am thinking in buying some books that will help me to learn faster.
I don’t have much money, but I am thinking in buying some 5 or 6 books. I want to ask you guys who have already years of experience with drawing the following question:
>If you could buy, let’s say, only 6 books on drawing, what books would you buy? What are the absolute best books, the ones that are indispensable to you, the ones that you keep using and reading for years?
One that I bought and that is truly helpful is Perspective Made Easy, but I need more. Can you guys and girls help me?

What do you think of Tim's Vermeer, /ic/?
This guy with absolutely no painting skill replicated it with the instruments Vermeer could get his hands on, on top of that Vermeer doesn't do under paintings or sketches beforehand, he just laid the paint on, on top of even that all the lens issues that Vermeer would have painted are there in his paintings, but Tim caught on to it.
Do you think this blurs the line between artist and inventor/whatever?
There's also a documentary on it which I highly recommend.

Hello /ic/ I come to you with a question.
Do any of you by chance, have a tutorial on ambient occlusion painting?
Im very interested in learning it, as I enjoy the look it gives 2d art.
SO far I have found a few touch in tutorials on it, and one in Russian, that looks like it is actually very well done, I tried following it, but I don't speak Russian, so yeah...
My problem is, I'm too focused on darks as shadows, and my AO attempts just turn to shadow layers, I can't quite shake it off.
Any help would be appreciated
