Hi guise. Need help here unmasking a possible poser. A girl in my art class painted this based on a picture she said she took, but i hardly doubt she has the resources and knowledge to do so. Do you recognize any similar art pieces to this? Pic related, her painting, shoped a litle bit to show some parts that were hidden when the pic was taken.

Hey guys, Not sure where else to post this and i figured you guys would be the best people to ask. Im buying my gf a piece by an artist she really likes (she's an artist too) and he hand signs the pictures which will definitely add a more "awesome factor" to it all...But apperantly theres an option to ask him to write something too. I'd like to make it more personal to her maybe putting her name on it or asking him to write something inspirational or something to her. You know, both being artists or whatever. I'm not sure though. You think the signing is good enough? I know she'd like it either way but idk if she'd like it more if it was more personal to her? Thanks

ungh!

This year i started taking art seriously and studying. I set the bar for my art so high i barely feel any joy out of doing it anymore. I hope to be a great concept artist, but everything i create from my imagination feels like absolute shit. When i do try to paint, i usually scribble all over it or delete it before i even have the chance to finish it, because of how awful i think it is. Please tell me i'm not the only one? Are there are good practices for drawing out of your imagination instead of studying for once? I feel like a machine constantly drawing the things i see instead of using my imagination. Does anyone else have problems like this? Thanks guys.

I don't understand how to tell if proportions are right. I want to practice by drawing a lot of sketches like this (100), but if I don't get them right I'll only be practicing how to do it wrong - advice?

Greetings /ic/ I've been lurking around this board a lot lately and been trying to get into training and tutorials but I can't seem to hit the right subjects for me to develop on. I have been drawing all my life, but It should be said that I’m completely self-taught. I have come to the conclusion that I have to get out of my isolation and start learning from others but myself. So /ic/ what level am I on, and where should I start? - I’m going to dump some sketches I made last night so you can see my style. thank you in advance

So I want to start painting. I want to do it therapeutically, not professionally or for profit. Should I learn how to draw first, or just jump in? I want to paint therapeutically, but I also don't want to make shitty art. Any suggestions for a beginner who really only wants to paint as a hobby?

Hey! I just did my first self-portrait since I was in middle school. Can I get some critique? I'm following the exercises in Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain right now.

Ok guys, for a level art i chose the theme 'forgotten'. I was thinking about what could represent the idea of being forgotten once you have died in a painting to start. Any ideas on what i could do. and il keep you updated. Any ideas or artist references would be great. Thanks!

I started to read (really just skimmed trough to exercises after reading 30 pages) "Betty Edwards - The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" and I hate these exercises. I have read "Kimon Nicolaides - The Natural Way To Draw" and liked these similiar exercises in Nicolaides' book much better, specially contour drawing was explained better in my opinion. Is Edwards' book really that good as /ic/ has always stated? I understand symbol-problems and so-on, but isn't there better options (like "Natural way to draw", or good ol' Loomis)? Is this copy-magic (this is the impression I got) really necessary for novice artist? I see it recomended as a great starter-book. TLDR; Is Edwards' book better than Nicolaides' if so, why?

I'm getting increasingly annoyed coming here, rarely is there anything of worth to look at. I understand that people come here to look for critiques and help, this is all well and good, but they really should be going to a class, rather than asking people on the internet. I see people doing figure studies with tablets, where are the live models? I see people calling a figure study, an anatomy study. I just don't understand why I keep coming here when I see so much critique, and so little art.
