Ageism

10 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I see many posts here about art school or college but most known artists these days dont seem to be established with a fanbase until 30's or 40's or even later, why should it matter? Is this a cultural thing/brainwashing thing where we 'have to have it all' in our 20's?? Is it true what i read that there is no real 'age' limit on becoming a professional artist? Personally I am 32, never went to art school etc, do all my own study and am self taught, sure I am not yet published or selling anything and I sometimes get paranoid about 'age/numbers', or if i see someone younger getting into the game before me. Opinion?

Do you ever think sometimes you're holding yourself back by drawing nothing but anime all the time?

Distinct Skills Discussion

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
This thread is for discussing and identifying different skills used in drawing and painting so that those who lack in some know what to concentrate on. Here are the eight I've thought of so far: 1. Gesture 2. Anatomy 3. Perspective >2 Aspects: proportion and 3Dality/spatial awareness 4. Line style >Examples: Thick black outlines, lines that vary in quality, lines that vary in quality within the line, lines that vary in quality between lines, etc. 5. Line skill 6. Symbol style >Being able to represent things in abstract ways, e.g. anime noses. 7. Value 8. Color >I'm sure this could be split into a few but I don't know much about this.

Please make sure your posted image is clear, DOWNSIZED TO AROUND 1000 PIXELS WIDE, ROTATED TO THE CORRECT ORIENTATION, and that any unused space is cropped. If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one and then hug a kitten for good luck. >dA /ic/ group : >http://4chan-ic.deviantart.com /ic/ Resources/Reference/Downloads/Links: >>General resources : >http://sites.google.com/site/4chanic/ >http://sites.google.com/site/artandwhatnot/ >http://characterdesigns.com/ >http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-3.html >http://finaltrinity.tumblr.com/post/13163064364/art-references-tumblr-accounts >>fellowBro's books : >http://mediafire.com/?i44dwzkf9j9n8 >>Figure Drawing Tool: >http://pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php >http://posemaniacs.com/ >>Photoshop Brushes >http://cgsociety.org/index.php/CGSFeatures/CGSFeatureSpecial/tower_of_evilzz

Is your obsession with drawing as unhealthy as mine? >be in art school, go on if >people rip me a new one for my first few posts on ic and k can't stand it, completely fuels my self improvement for the next few years >bad social anxiety in art school, feel like it's impossible for me to talk to people unless I can show them I'm good >I'm shit so I sit every day quietly in class not talking to a souls, just listening and drawing >finally make a breakthrough, have a great crit ft my illustrations in art school, basically no hard dicks, nothing bad said >people used to tear me new ones all the time on ic, now sometimes they say nice things (that says a lot for ic) >now I'm able to talk to people, makes lots of art school friends, feel comfortable talking to literally almost anyone This is great except >now I can't fucking draw. Can't tell if this is a symptom of outside stress or that I'm just that pathetic that I only cared about gaining people's respect

Biggest pet peeves as an artist

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
/ic/, what are your biggest art related pet peeves? >someone just copies a photograph >"oh wow such gud o my so amazing" Literally, every fucking time. What's even worse is when they label it as an illustration because they may have done one slightly more creative thing, like set up the scene instead of using pleb stock art or something.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises. Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud. AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that. RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS: #1) >screenshot the image and post that instead (also images shouldn't come out accidentally sideways with this method) #2) >change camera capture settings to something smaller #3) >send to computer and resize in MSPaint ? ? There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VfDTpLLVl5bWUGWguswKpPFml533luI8-NBd1EGYHnA/edit >Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images. Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash. TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless. I really want a portable drawing tablet. is the cintiq companion 2 worth it? or should I try to get a windows surface pro 4? I'd really like to hear what you guys have to say about these things. your opinion. I'm all up for the cintiq companion 2 BUT amazon reviews scare me, and I have no problem spending that kind of money but I don't want to have a 50-50 chance of it working. the surface pro 4 seems nice but people say those have a battery problem and that it's not as good as the wacom. should I just wait it out? if so, when is wacom going to come up with something new? should I have to wait like 2-3 more years or what? I don't think I'm up to waiting that much. I don't know if the ipad will be worth it because I mainly use windows systems you guys would help me greatly, so thank you in advance

There's an important number of people believing that "talent" doesn't exist on /ic/. They think it's all about work, trying hard to achieve their objectives, but they're wrong, there is always some guy you met in your life that draws better than you even if he began drawing 1 month ago. Kr0n made this when he was fucking 12 years old, now he's 25. They'll say that when he was a kid his parents forced him to work very hard and that's why he's so skilled now. But you're wrong. He has talent. And he's not even the best artist out of there. But can you overcome a person with talent? Yes, if this person doesn't work. If this talented guy works as hard as you do, you'll never be as good as this person. Never. The best artists are always the ones who has talent AND discipline to work very hard. If you only have one of them you'll be a decent artist, but you'll never be the art god of your dreams.
