Vilppu or Hampton?

15 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: fffffffuuuuu.jpg]
I'm rapidly switching between two methods, Vilppu and Hampton. On one hand I like how easy Vilppu's method is to grasp, and how simple it can seem to construct a figure out of a simple gesture, and on the other hand, I really like how Hampton's technique can turn a box figure into a fully shaded piece of work. Now, the crossroad is, at some point, I started utilizing Hampton's process (ICS, see the motion of the spine, etc.) in vilppu's, and it is... its not pretty, /ic/. That 'flow' that Vilppu talks about that I was just beginning to grasp is absent, and I'm unsure where to go next, considering I'm on the inbetween. Spherical forms? Landmarks? I don't know. Halp.

Critique wanted

Hello /ic/ I recently collaborated with some friends on an amateur animation project, and I'm interested in getting some critique. I know our skills is no where near renaissance perfection, and we're only doing this for fun. However, some critique would be nice: What do you think of my drawings, and what do you think of the animation? Disregard the acting, I'm not at all interested in that. http://youtu.be/cOmXLAsC7Zk tl;dr critique wanted on drawing and animation, disregard acting, pic related it's my style of drawing.

What's good about Loomis' Fun With A Pencil? It reminds me of those Draw X Step by Step books that would give you good drawings (not really the case here though) but then after you still haven't really learnt anything without the steps.

What are some of your favorite figurative illustrators? I've started to grow the number of artists I recognise, but seem to be severely lacking enough in figure drawing to fulfill what I require for school studies. I feel dumb asking, but help an anon that is bad at this stuff out?

Under the assumption you don't have permission to do this and use scaffolding HOW DO PEOPLE MAKE THESE?! Ladders? Hanging on a Rope? I just don't see any method to do it fast enough and not get caught with a shit ton of equipment going to or from

Perspective Question

14 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: Cityscape_3pt_Perspective_by_BDPatton.jpg]
What do you do when the perspective angle you need is much too large for the paper you're working on? For example, right now I'm trying to get an aerial view of an arena for a comic I'm working on but my vanishing points are all somewhere off the page. Am I going to have to just mark these off when I go for points that far out? Or is there a much simpler way to go about perspective that causes less headaches and confusion? Also, I'm doing this all traditionally. Don't own photoshop. Just a book on perspective and a dream.

If I want to gain recognition/money in the art world, should I stop working digitally and switch to traditional media? Pic unrelated.

An argument for tracing

Now before you chew me out just hear what I have to say. So I've always had problems drawing heads/faces from different angles. I looked at various guides and tried practicing the base shapes but when I added the feature they still looked off and I couldn't figure out why. So I took a picture (a photo), traced over the relevant features (eyes+brows, nose, mouth, ears) and then tried drawing the base shape over that (basically by starting with the top of the head before the hairline and drawing the underlying sphere. I found it WAY easier to see where certain features lay and their proportion relative the entire face and skull. Has anyone else done something like this? I found it immensely useful and saw some pretty immediate improvements after this exercise

Hello, /ic/. Somewhere, way down the road after a lot more practice, I'd like to be able to produce art like pic related. Why I'm here is because there've only been two artists that have captured my attention for any period of time - in terms of raw style. I've seen pieces that were much more impressive in some regard or another, but few that have kept my attention like some of Ashley Woods' art for the Metal Gear series, and...
