When I was a kid, yeah.

Now it's just with other pros who are good. Of course it's just on my own, and I do have a huge respect for them. But it's always good to measure yourself against the ones you admire.

This yoga vegan faggot who has a shitload of technical talent and had been drawing all his life, but panders too much to manboy pop culture gaming cutesy shit and makes mostly white, nordic friends despite being mexican.

Compare that to me, an ex-amateur fighter piece of shit who went on to art after a big training injury, and worked on my art studies and technical shit so much that all the other student artists in school come to me for advice shit (since the other guy was harder to approach except by fellow vegan chicks).

He's more into illustration, I'm more into fine art. He does a lot more realistic portraiture, I do a lot more dynamic sketching/figure stuff. He's into young, hip stuff, I'm more into traditional, classical art.

I actually don't hate him. In fact, I respect him (especially his ability), I just don't like how he's a pussy-whipped vegan faggot who could have gotten laid by these hot chicks, but he's a "feminist". All the chicks that approach me are only half as attractive of the girls that approach him, and he's wasting the opportunity

Its science. Women will surrender their vaginas at the blink of an eye for a man with a nice facial structure. Personality plays no role. If a woman is with an ugly or average male its only because of money or materialistic value. Its been proven on dating sites with fake profiles so arguing with this fact is virtually pointless.

what about the women uninterested in dating sites? (if you're on a dating site in the first place, what is your demographic in terms of how you feel about relationships?) don't answer that

the guy that drew this. we went to middle school together. He was in 5th grade and i was in 3rd. we'd share drawings on the bus and I always thought he was the greatest artist who ever lived. I still think so. No matter what I do I never feel like I surpass his creativity. I feel like everything i do is a watered-down version of all his potential. he thinks im good at drawing but i honestly have a hard time believing him.

its less a rivalry and more like a big brother thing.

i have the potential to work with a really beautiful girl who ive been friends with and recently wanted to draw with me. maybe ill have a rivalry with this girl now cause the guy in pic related is in college for biology or something.

I try to find art rivals in real life but it's pretty hard for me where I live. I'm taking a figure drawing class right now and I'm pretty much putting myself up against 2 other okay dudes in the class. I'm still a lot better though so it's tough.

I should search online

I was drawing with a group of people and then started distancing myself because they weren't improving at the same rate as me.

For the longest time I consistently checked to see if I had made the correct choice but rivalery.. Not so much?

I need artist friends ._.

>>
Anonymous 2014-10-08 00:22:14 No.1856277
I don't have a rival so much as I have a few peers. They've been drawing for quite a while but they've only ever drawn the same adopted animu style girl in identical poses as it's apparent when they try to draw anything else.

Healthy competition is good.

no, i had that thing where people look up to you and think you're great at art, and are actually motivated by jealousy of you to some extent. and you don't realise it and think they just like drawing with you until later when you're adults and they drunkenly tell you they were always jealous of you as a kid and how it helped them a lot.

and now you're kinda jealous of them because while you are floating in a cess-pool called beaux arts they decided to be an architect and have a more social and meaningful life and get placed in a firm and will be getting paid quite a bit pretty soon while you can only just make ends working 16 hours a day chasing a fading vision and selling prints to tourists and selling no big paintings in group shows :(

whatever that's called is the main art relationship i have.

You chased an artistic ideal or dream and they chose a profession.
They might be working with pencils and drawing, they might be expressing themselves but its still a strict job ruled by clients and heavy regulations on how structures are constructed.

Still a pimp job to get paid for though.

Because he's friendzoned like fuck, and he gets preachy with all that SJW nonsense, your everyday person doesn't want to approach him without him making some big deal about veganism or yoga (if he even talks to them). He may honestly believe in all that, but he gets melancholic over the fact that nobody wants to have a relationship with him.

And these everyday people come to me instead when asking for all things art, both men and women. In the subject of respect, I respect women a lot more than his pretentious ass does, since I don't BS and follow some stupid SJW cause (that's just BS, and I can prove it to them with logic) while still maintaining a deep, personal connection with all these women to the point where they would post paragraphs of chat/text messages to me (and I'm genuinely concerned with them). I still get a little taste, because women can get intrigued by someone whom they don't expect to be who they thought they expect: the contradiction of a ball-busting no BS fucker and a "sensitive" artist.

Not that I want to change him. He's a good lucking son of a bitch (while I'm this stocky guy with fake teeth), but isn't getting any so it balances things out. He'd make a great gay dude, if he just goes that way already (showing signs) while those Yoga hotties he hangs out with finally looks my way.

I have an insanely good but highly secretive friend. He hasn't uploaded anything to the internet in years, and recently took down his deviantart. This picture's from around 2 or 3 years ago, just when I was getting in to concept art and illustration. He lives in a different town than me now, and even when we were neighbors I'd only occasionally catcha glimpse of what he was working on.

Trying to catch up to him has been a major motivator for me. And he's said my improvement over the last couple years has motivated him to keep improving as well. I encourage people to have friendly rivalries with their irl friends.

I need somebody to be my rival. I floated down from a bucolic childhood into a comfortable adulthood from the nurturing arms of supportive and overall wealthy parents. I am an overachieving narcissistic piece of hipster trash, and if I'm ever gonna make any actual art I need someone to damage me. Tell me I'm the worst.

Yes, the other good artist in my uni.

She has super up tight style and takes ages to finish anything, her modelling isn't as good and her textures aren't either, but she's really good at organic modelling and she gets commissions up the vazoo, makes like 300 quid every time she wants to stream.

I'm more painterly, way faster, better hard surface modeller but I get no likes or faves or comments or whatever anywhere I post my art and I barely make anything, despite drawing 8hrs a day. But people in class come to me with questions and teachers love me.

We respect eachother and we're friends. If one of us gets a job inna industry its a victory for the other one as well.

I had one when I was a kid.
>challenged them to a drawing contest
>got my ass kicked (they were a couple years older)
>reconnect with them in high school and they tell me that I've gotten really good
They were still making art but one day browsing Deviantart I realized they were tracing a lot of other artists' stuff.

And kind of at college
>she went to a more art-centric high school
>also had private lessons outside of school
>definitely the best traditional artist in our classes
>one day outside of class we started talking about art and stuff
>turns out that she wasn't even planning on getting an art degree because she could get more money doing other things
