After all these years I finally bought a new monitor...

Wow... After using 4:3 CRT for 20 years... 16:9 Widescreen sure feels weird...

Why can't everything go back to the good old days of 4:3...

Muh visual novels...
Muh classic games...

Is it IPS?

EIZO EV2436 masterrace here.

Widescreen is for normalfags. Sure, newer anime looks better on widescreen, but who the fucks watches after-2000 anime? Try watching anything from before 2000 with a widescreen monitor, it's shit.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:12:17 No.11810074
I don't think it is, if I try using it from extreme angles the screen starts behaving like a laptop one.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:13:21 No.11810076
Yeah, I guess it's a TN.

Why don't you just get a used CRT? A good old FD trinitron should do the thing.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:21:31 No.11810093
So any reason as to why you purposedly damaged your eyes for so many years using old and proven harmful technology?

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:21:40 No.11810094
The best year for anime is 2005 anyway.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:23:40 No.11810097
I've used 17' CRTs all my life, I only bought a widescreen monitor because my CRT finally died.
I still can't believe my last CRT lasted almost 10 years with me. (I bought it used from a guy that had already used it for 3 years)

For superior colors and motion quality. Also, it's only harmful for your eyes if you have shit lighting in your room

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:26:38 No.11810105

13 years is a pretty short lifetime considering my oldest CRT is 25 years old and is still working.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:27:05 No.11810106
Harmful technology? CRT is literally the best. Now that I've got this one I can understand why so many oldies like myself fail to adapt to widescreen LCD/LED monitors.
The black colors in this monitor are a piece of shit, CRT was the only one that could emit TRUE black.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:30:00 No.11810115
Well, to tell the truth, it's not like it completely stopped working or anything, however, often the screen would stretch beyond the monitor and wouldn't go back to the right resolution normally, so I had to plug my brother's monitor on my video card and adjust the resolution manually every time it failed, which was a pain in the ass.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:30:57 No.11810116
I made the switch many years ago. 16:9 grew on me in the general browsing department, but I still use my CRT for all the games I play because it just looks and feels better. Old anime is good on it too.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:33:57 No.11810124

Have you already ditched it or you still have it somewhere? It seems that it's only the capacitors that have problems. You could check how to discharge the CRT (if you don't it will kill you with enough current to make your computer run for a week) and how to replace them.

Anonymous 2014-01-15 20:36:31 No.11810130
I still have it with me but I'm too much of a pussy discharge it.
I know how scary monitors can be.

I love to watch animes on my good old Sony Trinitron, the picture look so great!

Buy a 4:3 LCD then and stop crying.

is this the technology otaku thread?

Anonymous 2014-01-15 23:09:32 No.11810482
I almost returned my 24" monitor after using 17" CRTs from like 1995 to 2012.

It was so big.

Do you always have trouble discerning subject matter, or do you always have people hold your hand? Are you the kind that needs the laugh track on sitcoms to know when something is supposed to be funny?

Anonymous 2014-01-15 23:10:33 No.11810486
I've actually been thinking about doing this

True otaku use 5:4.

Anonymous 2014-01-16 00:04:33 No.11810612
I've been using the 4:3 format until a few months ago, and it felt weird switching to 16:9.
However, I found them to be more convenient! Most modern anime, moves and games are tailored for this format, wider screen allows for wider FOV in FPS and, most importantly, I can easily keep two windows open at the same time! Right now, I'm browsing 4chan and watching a stream at the same time, it was very awkward to do with my old 4:3 monitor. Old games have vertical black strips, sure, but it's something i got used to very quickly, and I find them less annoying than horizontal strips.
