So I just finished downloading this.
How much grinding should I expect?

A lot. Gameplay gets stale fast.

I almost want to grab this again so I can select Kohakuren over and over again and hear that voice.
So goooood.
Sharty and Kohakuren should have been main heroines.
Fuck Servalwi.

I loved the gameplay. Wish there was more that satisfied me in the same way.

I'm about 20-30 hours in, and not much grinding so far. It's extremely painful, though, when you DO need a specific item, and the game makes you dig through a brazillion entries in several different completely unsorted lists to find exactly what mobs drop what you need, and where those mobs can be found.

So, I've been keeping an Access database. Kill me.

The Seiha wiki is pretty nice, but I don't like having to jump to the separate Locations page, ctrl+f the name of the monster that has the drop I want, and then write down every location that has the monsters. Access will, given an item, just spit out exactly where you need to grind.

Mostly, though, keeping your own notes feels less like cheating. I don't like to consult wikis or guides on my first playthrough of anything.

I can respect that, even if I've never been able to understand that reasoning.

To me that sounds equivalent to not installing addons or scripts to your browser because you don't want to corrupt the intended experience.

It makes more sense if you really appreciate the "intended experience." For a game that's entirely about story, loot collection, and stragery? Definitely worthwhile, at least in my opinion.

The "intended experience" of chinesianlinkspammer1989's random blogspot? Not so much.

Pretty slick—my CDO power isn't high enough to produce such a spreadsheet. I'll definitely be using it second playthrough.

Yea, I understand where you are coming from, but I view "broken" parts of games as something that I should circumvent rather than dealing with, just like I would with any other software. If I find that a part of a game is not fun, I will avoid it if possible.

Won't disagree--I wish the "items" menu was at least searchable. But, half the fun is finding where all the monsters are and what loot they drop, which is gone if you download a bestiary with everything filled in for you.

If someone modded the game to have a working items menu, my arbitrary and oddly-specific moral code would have no problem with using it.

The English version already has a ton of shit that the Japanese doesn't, like furniture stats and harvest items from it displayed.

I would always prefer something in the system over something outside or on the web. I sympathize as I also would rather not consult something out of the game (but I won't avoid doing so if I feel the need).

But for the specifics it comes down to what you enjoy about the game. I did not get any fun from finding where the monsters and what they dropped, so that was simply something keeping me away from the things that I did love about the game.

Well LAV filters and MADVR are supposedly making the game hang with animations on.

Is there any work around to this?

I had to turn off MPEG support in LAV Splitter. Recettear had similar problems.
