Although Haruka appears to be a success for mangagamer, it seems like alicesoft might have had higher expectations than 1k, judging from doddler's comments at
>https://ask.fm/The_Doddler/answers/134626492657

I wonder what exactly said target might be? It's supposedly a "realistic" target that determined pre-evangile, and boob wars was mentioned as a comparison a few times so perhaps 2000? Given it's strong opening, I can see that being reached eventually, though perhaps not quick enough to satisfy some(in time for con announcements atleast).

I have to wonder how much a "little" is. It could be that Rance was only promised after a target goal was established, so now Rance might still be off the table even if Alicesoft offers them one of their other games.

So from the 29th to the 7th, they had about 2000 sales, with Haruka at the number one spot the entire time. I would say Haruka is definitely above 1K, probably closer to 1,500 now. Can't wait to see numbers that are a bit more recent then that.

While its true that Haruka does well= Rance isn't necessarily true, if Haruka doesn't do well enough then we're not getting anything else. I understand that logically, a nukige doing well would lead to other nukige, but for whatever reason Alicesoft chose a nukige to test the western market with, so that nukige needs to do well enough for them to continue letting things come over, while not doing crazy good enough to show that nukige are the way to go.

I would think that if Haruka was a breakout success then yes, we would be getting Escaslayer, Tsuma games, or Oyako Rankan as the next game, but it didn't. So now it is really is on tale end sales if Alicesoft will even bring anything else over, period.

He said little below target, so I would guess its a difference of hundreds and not a thousand. I would guess the goal was 1500 or 1750 or something like that. I doubt they expected Boob Wars numbers, that had a lot of stupid things going for it including being cheaper.

Boob Wars might not have been the best benchmark, since it's a bit of a meme. Attention-grabbing titles like Boob Wars and Harem Party are self-explanatory and easy sells. Plus, both games are cheaper than Haruka by $10.

You guys must have been reading too much Ixrec.

"It was an open space" -- what does this even mean?
"benches were evenly spaced throughout" -- besides being awkward, repeats space twice in a row
"there was multicolored stained glass" -- where? also it's the third sentence in a row that uses "was"; is this a list?
The singer was standing... -- the singer? also "was" again; writing 101 says use "stood" in cases like this
"was a lone human girl" -- lol, do they have orc girls in that game? also was again + the way this is worded sounds like "the singer" and the "human girl" are different people
"stopped my thinking" -- awkward
"lending my ear" -- not sure why this was used instead of "listening" and I'm not personally familiar with this expression, if this is related to "lend an ear" idiom then it's misused

I can't believe anyone could read this shit for pleasure. But then I'm no abused EOP.

People who write VNs might not exactly be novelists, but they are able to write coherent and mostly pleasant sentences. And this is some ESL fan-fiction tier shit.

Um, I'm usually the first to jump and make fun of fuwalations, but are you sure you posted the correct sentences?

The only problematic one seems to be the first one, where a "she was bending to rock me awake" has been changed to actually rocking him awake, which might as well have been a conscious decision to improve the flow of the sentence.

The second sentence seems to be a liberal translation to avoid "it cannot be helped". Are you a fan of those?

The third sentence reads a bit awkwardly but I don't see the problem with it tl-wise. I guess it literally says "our faces would meet in the dorm" but that's just a Japanese expression for living/meeting in the dorm every day.

The fourth sentence seems to be literally what the Japanese says. You lost me there.

If ?????????? does not imply they live together then I don't know what does, lol. "I wake up in the same bed as her each morning, but we're totally not living together." Though if this is Sora, I guess I see how he ended up getting that wrong. If chusingura is "properly written" then >>14915395 is Shakespeare-tier masterpiece.
On technical level of individual lines, it was worst Japanese writing I ever encountered among non-free stuff. And then there's inconsistent style across chapters, with final two being so bad in all senses that even loyal fans of work agree that overall it would be better if they never existed.
Author cannot even figure what kind of message and values he tried to promote. One chapter he is glorifying bushido, next he is promoting pacifism and renouncing death, revenge and so on. And then there's THAT final, which completely devalues everything happened before.

I'm bitching about factual errors, mistranslations and omissions. You cannot just ignore half of line and pretend everything is okay.

> Adding random details that may or may not be true IG.

Basically you're adding the detail she lives in the dorm with him, when the sentence only says she comes every day to wake him up. There's a huge difference, she could live offf-campus and wake him up anyway because she cares so much, or she could live right next to him in the same dorm (making you retrospectively correct). The point is, you're adding specificity when that specificity doesn't exist in the original text, which muddles a translation and can, in the worst case, render it confusing or incomprehensible.

The second sentence is removing stylistics to make it flow worse.

I will admit it's not quite 'look ma I used my machine translator'-tier, but it's still pretty shit, especially when you realize he probably put twenty times more effort and time into the sample than anything less public.

The poster said himself that he only posted selected lines. I didn't look up the context, so the translator might as well have joined several lines.

As for the romanization, how should I know? I'm neither Russian nor German.

I agree that chapters 4 and 5 were pretty lousy, but writing on technical level? The prose is simplistic and basic, yeah, but I don't remember there being anything technically wrong with it. Neither have I seen any Japanese reviews complaining about that aspect.

You must come from some strange alternate reality land.

There's nothing in the text implying she comes to the dorm either. It just says "they meet in the dorm everyday". And it would sound very strange in English if you didn't clarify why that happens. So the choice is between adding clarification or not making sense.

It's too bad he added a wrong clarification though. Wonder if he read the game.

Your bullshit excuses are "not making sense". There's nothing wrong with just leaving it at "they meet in the dorm everyday". There's no dorm, no school and no girl anyway, which is disclosed just several lines further

ANY translation of Baldr Sky is going to be ripped to shreds even if it's 99.9% correct. Translation is an art, not a science, and everyone has their own ideas of what's right. Unfortunately, in Baldr Sky's case, it's heavily tainted by a shitload of people using it as one of their first games or machine translating their way through it, so there's a lot of people with fanatical opinions and very little actual knowledge, of Japanese or English.

Trusting any opinion on translation accuracy on 4chan is like trusting a dog to keep your sausage stash safe. It simply isn't in the nature of the people frequenting this board to be blessed with enough intelligence to learn other languages.

I'd rather see people being overly critical than blindly accept every scrap thrown their way. That thread is nothing but praise without any mention of the issues raised here. I find the problems with foreign words most damning, because Baldr Sky is full of foreign terminology and references to other things, and if your 'translator' can't even bother to put in the effort to look up what ??????(???????????) is a reference to, they're not going to be putting in the effort for things that aren't blindingly obvious.

That, and things like getting "hora" completely wrong. Even EOPs fucking know that one.

It's just the annual announcement of a Baldr Sky project with one chapter poorly translated. The last two were on Reddit. This one's on Fuwanovel. It'll die soon enough.
