What are the most tragic militaries, wars, or losses of all time? No political bs. My choice is Germany in WWII. >kick ass on the battlefield >superior espirit de corps >massively outnumbered >massively inferior logistics >enemy knows all plans due to broken encryption Basically all odds stacked against. Runner up: Confederates in the ACW. Similar situation. Pic unrelated.

Alright so I came into the possession of a mini 14 today. That's great, always eyed them, and I've always loved the M1A platform. What I don't love is the composite stock that came with it. Part of me wants to change it out for pic related, but I feel like it may be degenerate to not use wood. Thoughts?

The money saved will be spent on keeping the third Zumwalt, more F-35s, Hornets and SM-6 missiles, and adding the Virginia Payload Module (VPM) to future Virginia submarines.

The Future of Mechanized Warfare

> muh MBT doctrine is obsolete > ATGMs make tanks useless > there are no more tank battles y do we need lots of tanks? Found a neat article /k/ommandos that addresses some concerns about mechanized warfare in the future. I've seen some memes spouted on /k/ that reference the end of tank warfare. This article is a good summation of where the future of tanks and other armored vehicles are going and makes some good points as to why they will remain a key component in combined arms warfare. Also points out some weaknesses. > https://aw.my.com/gb/news/general/nature-future-mechanized-warfare Speaking of conflict in Ukraine: > The massive increase in artillery firepower can be devastating to mechanized forces as well as raw manpower – in one instance two entire mechanized battalions were practically wiped out in the space of three minutes. > 22mm shell impacts are devastating even against tank armor, and have been seen knocking turrets off active tanks. The Gvozdika losses, however, were quite high since the vehicle lacks any armor to speak of. > [ERA] kits are quite effective against single-warhead anti-tank missiles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers (RPGs) Historical kill ratio of modernized tank warfare: > According to empirical data, the kill ratio between comparable models is roughly 1:1, but against modernized variants for every 1 kill of the modernized tank, 3 non-modernized vehicles are lost

AIA rifles

Does anyone on /k/ own any AIA rifles? I just purchased one of pic related, AIA M10-A1. It's a Lee Enfield chambered in 7.62x39 and it uses AK magazines. I haven't received it in the mail yet, and i've been trying to do some research about AIA online but can't find much information about them at all. Anyone know what years these guns were in production, and roughly how many are out there? Also, general Enfield discussion I suppose.

The last thread brought the house down Dummkopf Edition > What's this thread about? As usual this thread is for the discussion and pics of tracked and wheeled AFVs of all kinds from MBTs to supertanks to self propelled AA guns. Please keep it civil and cite sources for statistics. Despite Henschel’s victory in the Tiger competition, competitor Porsche had already sunk a significant amount of effort and capital into designing their own version (the VK4501(P)) – to the extent that they were confident enough to initiate production orders to some 90 tanks even before the results of the competition was announced. The Tiger (P)s that were left over were speedily put to use, some serving as a slightly different base for the original Tiger design, but most being fitted with a reinforced superstructure, elongated chassis and the hugely powerful PaK 43/2 8.8 cm L/71 gun. This retrofitting was done by Alkett Works at Berlin-Spandau, wherein a fixed turret was built to accommodate the long gun and the original Porsche engines were replaced by Maybach engines of equivalent power. The vehicle that would emerge, the SdKfz 184, was dubbed the “Ferdinand”. Later, it would earn the name of “Elefant”, joining its brethren in the menagerie of German tanks. The tank destroyer quickly carved out a fearsome reputation for itself; with 200 mm of steel armour on its frontal arc, and weighing over 65 tonnes, it would first see combat at the famed battle of Kursk in May 1943. Superior firepower and staying power were the main qualities of the Elefant, rather than any kind of finesse. By late 1943, Ferdinand units were pulled out of Russia and refitted with maintenance operations and upgrades, including a commander’s cupola and hull machineguns – the lack of which was a key liability during Kursk – and later defend against the Soviet counteroffensives. > Gun Rifled 88 mm PaK 43/2 > Dimensions (l w h) 8.14 x 3.38 x 2.97 m > Weight 65 tonnes > Engine 592hp petrol > Speed 30 km/h
