Well /k/, I've been wanting to join the military since I've a kid and now that I'm 18, it's time to finalize my decision. I've boiled it down to two options:
A) 11B with option 4. Get to do shit you can only do in the military and the one of the few MOSes to have "neutralize the enemy" in its description. Not to mention Airborne School has always been a dream with mine and I get the chance to be in one of the few Airborne divisions (option 4s most be impossible to get now though...) Problem is that we are probably going to pull out of Afghanistan by 2014 which means if I'm lucky if I get an option 4 or get to deploy. And I imagine peacetime grunt sucks balls but from what I read, you just go to training schools you wouldn't normally do and clean and paint a lot (correct me if I'm wrong here). Even then, I'm mostly joining the military to get the sweet GI bill and get some experience and cash before heading off to college.
B) 89D. Now I'm not considering this because I saw the Hurt Locker. I think this MOS would better suit the "needs of the Army" and fit what I'm good at: I naturally calm under stress, have a great grasp on basic electronics, love tinkering mechanical objects, and dislike partying (.from what I read it's why most people drop out of EOD AIT). Even though it might not be as high-speed as 11Bang bang, apparently there is a civilian sector for "UXO techs" which would be a great option to have (could anyone shed more light on UXO tech?). Also, peacetime EOD would still probably deploy to "hotspots" in the Middle East, Phillipians, South Korea, etc. which is a nice plus over infantry.
So which one /k/? Oh and nuggets always related.
