Don Quixote

So, I'm listening to this on audiobook, as part of my intellectual quest to make myself more cultured and well-read. I'm at the part where Don Quixote and Sancho accidentally disrupt a nightly funeral procession. What I want to know, is, does this story pick up and turn into a greater, real adventure, or is the entire story going to be "silly man thinks this mundane thing is something else" again and again? I kind of like it so far and I TRULY want to enjoy it as a great work of literature, but I don't really want to go through 25 more hours/discs if it's going to repeat itself like so. No spoilers, please. Anyone have other suggestions for audiobooks? I tried listening to Huckleberry Finn, but I found that boring, so I quit. Future audios include: >Treasure Island >Great Gatsby >finishing Lord of the Rings

This Book

I read about 11 chapters into Perdido Street Station but could never shake my disgust with the beastiality aspect. I mean, it wasn't even a furry thing which is bad enough, no, it was a verminous cockaroach woman. Always felt stupid and gross, and ruined the story for me. That's the thing though. I loved everything else: Mieville's world building and wonder creation. I would be ok with trying something else of his like the City and the City, but I need to know what the biggest flaws are first. If there's anything plain silly or off putting about it that plays a major role in the story. Does anybody have something to put forward about it?

I don’t play any instrument. I don’t have talent in music. I love the piano but the lessons I took proved me that I am simply a mess and a lost case when it comes down to make that creature sing. I will never be even a mediocre home-musician. All of the things above are true, and yet I love music. I love the works of Mozart, Bach and specially Beethoven with my entire hearth, with all my soul. I have been satisfied with 10 years of merely listening to their creations, but now I think is time to go deeper on it. I want to be able to read music, to be able to understand music scores, musical sheets. My question to you guys: it is possible to learn how to read music even if you don’t play an instrument? And if yes (and here is the reason for my choosing of this specific board): what books are the best for helping someone understand musical scores? I would really love to be able to “read” Beethoven’s piano sonatas; to be able to “see” what he is doing in the work. Thanks.

Are there any books that teach humility? I can be a pretty arrogant cunt who thinks of himself higher than everyone else, even though I'm not really that smart. It might be true that "a fault confessed is half redressed", but I'd still like to hear some recommendations.

>Considering videogames to be on par with literature as an art form Almost all my friends and people in their twenties that I know really believe this, and they take me for a "hipster" or a "snob" just because I disagree. The thing is that I also love videogames -you can like Faulkner or Cervantes and enjoy playing Crash Bandicoot or MGS games at the same time, they are not the same thing- but I think that the comparison in these terms is even a bit insulting for literature since I consider videogames to be much less mature. May be the thing is that people -especially young people- read too little and too bad? Or are they right? Am I becoming old? I'm starting to feel lonely.
