I think there’s a pretty logical explanation for this that’s not prejudiced. Early fantasy writers like Lord Dunsany, E.R. Eddison, Evangeline Walton, Robert E. Howard, Fritz Leiber, Poul Anderson, Tolkien, etc drew upon what they knew: European myths and history, classical epics and 19th century swashbucklers. And further, writing in the 20s-50s what access would they have had to broader material?
