Been reading the selected works of Descartes
At first glance, his philosophy of mind seems outdated and laughable (tips fedora)
But I am being convinced (or convincing myself) that there is a kernel of truth to his idea
He says we can conceive of body and mind separately, so they are therefore separate (not really a great argument) but isnt he right?
As a mind, I have am experiencing reality. Science has taught us that matter can organize itself into complex systems that produce thought etc etc.
But isnt looking at the physical medium of a mind completely different than actually being that mind?
Imagine if star trek is real and we could transport people (replicate every atom of a person in a new location and destroy the previous person)
The new person wouldn't know hes a new person since he has all the memories of the previous person, but hes a new being is he not?
I dont wanna write a bunch of shit unless people respond so, need some friendly banter to get me thinking
