What's one word you wish you could erase permanently from the English language? I'd delete the word "caveat." I can't stand the word caveat, it's horrible. It's ugly to hear and look at when it's spelled on paper. What about you, /lit/

Vocabulary. Having a wide ranged and diverse vocabulary is one of the best ways to appear intelligent without actually being intelligent. I've only recently "graduated" from novels such as ASOIAF to deeper, harder to grasp books with liberal usage of words I flat out have never heard. I am currently reading The Brothers Karamazov and instead of only looking up a word I am unfamiliar with, I also write the word down on a sheet of paper. I find writing it out helps me to remember it, and also holds me accountable of the word. If the next day the meaning is lost, I look it up again. I'm only on chapter 10 and have nearly 50 words jotted down, many of which definitions are already set firmly within my memory, but they are there nonetheless. How has /lit/'s vocabulary improved over the years? How to people respond to use of your "big words"?

Listen to me, iPhone warriors in worldwide, poverty-stricken hermitages. Believe the picture and see the truth. 2+4=6 6=7 7+8=ending the eternal control of hyperfucker sissy-boy prostate gods and Latino cream king slut warriors forever. Look at the numbers flying into your eyeballs and ingest them through intestines and out the sphincter of eternity into your brainwaves reverberating worldwide into four billion people, globewide, into purestrain, gold-poverty forever, culminating in the free market system = eternal peace and liberty for all souls in the sensual chokehold of Steely Dan's enormous manpussy clitoris. All microblogged in the everwatching eyesight earzones of TV iPhone metacasts, living surrounded by the lie of cigarette cash truth youth exo-criminals written onto the parchment of our mind's soul's body's consciousness.

How are we doing this fine evening /lit/. How was your christmas? The last time I posted on this board I was very pleased with the response and developed a lot of good ideas, im hoping for a repeat, though, Im bringing less to the table this time. I have been listening to the Rise Against album 'Endgame' and the lyrics were very enjoyable, infinately better then the pop garbage that is filtered through western society. My question to /lit/ is, what kind of music do you most enjoy (I assume you cant all be pompus assclowns who listen to classical orchestra and nothing else) and do you value good lyrics over good instrumentals. Luckily, Endgame has both.

Hey /lit/! What would you say is one of the most enjoyable books you've read though is based off something else that may make other people think badly/differently about it? I'll start: Death Note-Another Note: The Los Angelas BB Murder Cases.

I wasn't really sure where to ask this, but does anyone here have Bibliotik invites? I can post my PTP, IPT, Animebyt.es, BTN, and WhatCD ratios for reference. Been trying to find a good source for textbooks and Elbitz is nice but limited.

Post good poetry. "New Year's Eve" by D.H. Lawrence There are only two things now, The great black night scooped out And this fire-glow. This fire-glow, the core, And we the two ripe pips That are held in store. Listen, the darkness rings As it circulates round our fire. Take off your things. Your shoulders, your bruised throat! Your breasts, your nakedness! This fiery coat! As the darkness flickers and dips, As the firelight falls and leaps From your feet to your lips!

Books about Book Writing

Please recommend me books about how to improve fiction writing as personal craft. I'm thinking starting with of Stephen King's 'On Writing' and Scott Orson Card's 'Characters and Viewpoint' and 'How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy' simply because they're mentioned often. Specifically I want to know how to make solid plot and stories. Less about publishing or English grammars. Anything else I should look at? Blogs? TvTropes? Video lectures?

Can somebody point me to parts of the Bible that mention magic or possession? The Church used to condone exorcisms and burning witches, so I'm curious about the use of magic. Was it just Satan and his demons possessing people in every case, or could witches actually have magical powers independent of possession?

>get A Game of Thrones season 1 on blu-ray for Christmas >dad's gf says she wants to watch it >tell he she should read the book first >she says that she likes to watch movie adaptations before reading the book >ishygddt Why would someone do this? I mean, I'll admit that I was one of those fags that read the book after they heard about the show, but that was because I wanted to imagine the world of Westeros for myself before I have someone elses interpretation permanently stuck in my mind. Opinions?
