Never posted on this board before but... Let's play a game of "Guess that book" using my poor description. Really, I'm just hoping someone here knows what I'm talking about because I don't know the title myself. It's a fantasy series I started when I was younger, about a group of magic-users who have a ceremony of testing their children soon after birth (involved a candle maybe?), if it turns out they can't use magic, they are put to death. One child is born and tested that must be put to death but his parents hide this fact and train the boy how to fake using magic (sleight of hand) so no one gets suspicious. Eventually it's found out, the parents are killed, and the boy makes good his escape. Turns out there was some prophecy where a boy who couldn't use magic usurped the current ruler or something along those lines. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Thanks. Feel free to contribute your own bad description.

>check out book from county library >2 or 3 pages have brown stains resembling shit EVERY FUCKING TIME. I really don't think I've ever gotten a book from a library that didn't have a shit stain on one of the pages. It's a fucking conspiracy I tell you.

What does /lit/ think about the rise in grammatical errors in public signage, television, and the internet? Is the lack of interest in preserving grammar leading to a shift in the rules of colloquial English? Are people really ignorant, or do they just not care? Will this affect contemporary literature, now that we have fanfiction being published as its own works? Pic unrelated.

i've been meaning to read this for a while, but always pick up something else instead. might have something to do with me hating this cover, but it's a borrowed copy. Anyways /lit/, what is your general impression of this book? I need some sort of motivation to start it and I'm bored right now. Relevant: only read Great Gatsby in high school several years ago, wasn't particularly fond of it inb4 gatsby =/= <3 -> pleb

Anyone read The Unfortunates by B.S Johnson? Thoughts? There was this whole thing by Jonathan Coe at the beginning claiming that it was so bad it was out of print for a bit but the book sucked so much i can see why it was.

I wasn't really sure where to ask this, but does anyone here have Bibliotik invites? I can post my PTP, IPT, Animebyt.es, BTN, and WhatCD ratios for reference. Been trying to find a good source for textbooks and Elbitz is nice but limited.
