>The man who kills a man, kills a man. >The man who kills himself, kills all men; as far as he is concerned he wipes out the world. His act is worse (symbolically considered) than any rape or dynamite outrage. For it destroys all buildings: it insults all women. The thief is satisfied with diamonds; but the suicide is not: that is his crime. He cannot be bribed, even by the blazing stones of the Celestial City. The thief compliments the things he steals, if not the owner of them. But the suicide insults everything on earth by not stealing it. He defiles every flower by refusing to live for its sake. There is not a tiny creature in the cosmos at whom his death is not a sneer. When a man hangs himself on a tree, the leaves might fall off in anger and the birds fly away in fury: for each has received a personal affront."..."The man's crime is different from other crimes -- for it makes even crimes impossible. Holy fucking shit Chesterton. I don't always agree with him, but I don't know if I've ever had a passage hit me this hard.

We were having a great discussion yesterday about Bannon's library (>>9075761) that ventured into Land, Deleuze, autism, and schizoanalysis. Unfortunately the thread hit bump limit after only a single day. Does anyone want to continue that discussion here?

What are authors similar to Hermann Hesse? Recommendations on overcoming snobbery or seeking enlightenment also welcome He leaves such a tender feeling after reading.

Contemporary literature is just as good, if not better, than the canon.

Looking for advice from analytic philosophy connoisseurs. I've been teaching philosophy for 15 years and never really read anything "analytic", just a little bit from Russell here and there, it sucked, and i'm pretty sure analytic philosophy in general sucks as much too. But still. I wanna see, I wanna try. Looking for something *interesting* if possible. It doesn't have to be "true" or famous or anything else than interesting. One thing that I can't stand is when they talk about "continental" philosophers that they never read or studied to begin with.

What are /lit/s thoughts on Consciousness? Are you materialists? Dualists? If literature deals with human growth and the eternal and corruptible "soul", does the realization that we're a bunch of nuerons kill anything transcendental you can garner from literature?

>doing something based on it making you happy Fucking why? Being happy is LITERALLY just lowering you standards. That's all it is. You could be happy at any moment you want, for any activity that you want. Don't fucking tell me you've decided to do something because "it makes you happy."
