I started reading Infinite Jest and lost all hope in becoming a good writer, when there are geniuses like him Even if I practiced writing 12+ hours a day for years I won't be anywhere near as good as he was at the age of 24 Anyone else with these feels?

What is beyond "no"? We have all heard that Reality-as-such is beyond any duality, beyond any affirmation or denial. It is often said that emptiness is not "no," but what is it exactly? -- The fact that we're so frequently discouraged in Zen from asking questions with presumptuous words like "what" makes it all the more pressing that we try to find a way forward. Let's turn to its logical formulation for a second. What this amounts to goes by many names, but in the West it usually goes by "apophatic" or "negative" theology. It's an idea you find in a lot of cultures, and it seems pretty clear to me that this is the driving factor behind why so many holy texts are filled with mountains of negations. The idea behind it is pretty simple: it's more accurate to say what Reality *isn't* than what it *is*. This is motivated by metaphysical technicalities that I won't get into in my OP, but it can be said that our project is basically trying to put Boundless Reality into a limited, bounded explanation, and for this reason it's difficult to *speak* about Reality-as-such. The ink-blood of many minds has been spilled over the relationship between language and metaphysics, and I won't try to solve it here. Anyway, the idea is just simple negation. However, Reality is beyond yes and no, being wholly inclusive (it being contradiction in terms for a real thing not to be included in Truth). So Wu/Mu (?) is not just "no", since it indicates reality. Negation isn't the whole picture. I want to try, with all of you, to speak more clearly about what is. Particularly, is there a logical form that's closer than mere negation? At some point I expect this to break down since Reality-as-such is beyond individuation and affirmation/denial, the two foundations of logic, but I think it can be taken a little further.

Has anyone else read this? >That semi-fantasy setting >That comfy-but-dangerous atmosphere >That focus on moral-grey-ground and questioning ethics I can't find anything else like it. I tried Never Let Me Go, and was sorely disappointed by the comparatively drab everything. Any recs?

What's a "classic" that absolutely sucks ass? I tried my hand at To Kill a Mockingbird one. Made it 10 pages in before I died of utter boredom.

Why is it that there is zero original gender critical literature written from a male perspective, but at the same time a phenomena of men feeling the need to talk over and "correct" feminist literature as if they're coming from a position of being more well-read in that area?

Need some some opinions on something I wrote. It's called "Inside the Head of a /pol/ack" I'm sure that at one time this world we live in was once beautiful. Brutal sure, but beautiful. And sometimes as I sit at my cubicle which isn't really a cubicle, just a painted white desk made of cheap compressed wood and half dividers on either side that give you the illusion of privacy but don't do a goddamn thing, I would sit there and wonder what the world was like when it was wide open with the unknown. A world without highways or selfies. A world without bankers or lawyers or insurance salesmen. A world without bills and divorces and taxes. A world where you would wake up when the sun rises and go to sleep when the stars poked through the thick black canvas of night. Where you would have your woman and your children and your fire and that's all you cared about. That's all you needed to worry about. That's all you needed to protect. Now you protect your credit score, your mileage, your data, your tongue. If the world was new and beautiful I wouldn't be some angst riddled desk jockey I would be different. I would be a goddamn alpha to roam a world so vast that I would have to make up stories about gods to fill in the blanks of things I didn't understand. I would lose myself in this fantasy and find happiness but then the phone would ring and I would be ripped from that little vacation inside my head. I would then deal with the irate customer and lie to him or her about why their piece of shit internet service was slower than what they signed up for. 'Miss I need you to calm down, those online speed test are just not accurate. Yes I can transfer you to the supervisor but it will be a fifteen minute wait he's in a meeting. Please hold.'
