I'm determined to have a successful thread on the Metaphysical poets on here. So are there any other fans of the Metaphysical poets on here? Marvell is good ("To His Coy Mistress", "An Horatian Ode to Oliver Cromwell"), but Donne is my favorite. He's one of my top 5 poets overall. His twisting metaphors become so unthinkably complex. Obviously "The Flea" is a good example of this, but my favorite is "Good Friday, 1613, Riding Westward". Could I behold those hands, which span the poles And tune all spheres at once, pierced with those holes ? Could I behold that endless height, which is Zenith to us and our antipodes, Humbled below us ? or that blood, which is The seat of all our soul's, if not of His, Made dirt of dust, or that flesh which was worn By God for His apparel, ragg'd and torn ?

I've been reading a lot of Dostoevsky lately and I really like his style and philosophy. Is Franz Kafka similar to him because they were both part of the existentialism movement. If not, are there any other authors similar to Dostoevsky?

Hot brunette, big tits, admiring my brand new pocket watch. It's good quality fool's gold, easily worth ninety bucks. I give her the patented glare - recoiling, she moans 'Trump'. Jackpot. I wake up early, always. The day's to be won in those cold, bright hours. I sip a java, finest Columbian, then sniff a little nose candy from a tight, olive-skinned torso: double-ditto. I take the express lift downstairs - it's the only one - and jump in my jet black car. It's Mercedes, second hand, and my Driver is called 'Mike Danetti'. He has broad hands and a good work ethic. I like that in a driver. Specifically, in this driver. I arrive at Trump tower around Trump time. Baby, it's always Trump time. I have pretty good mirror coverage in the lobby. Get a strong, objective look at my muscles and hair. Looking Trump - as per usual. I trump up to the fourth floor, giving my minions high trumps or booty trumps - depending on their gender and attractiveness. Being a man will disqualify you from a booty trump. Being ugly will disqualify you from a booty trump. Capisce? I reach Trump office. Trump HQ. "This, my dear, is where the Trump goes down. You dig?" They always dig. By quarter-past-Trump I'm getting my Trump ravaged by some eager hardbody. Gadzooks that hits the trump. "You just earned a promotion, bitch. Now get outta the Trumptub!" I take a hot, lonely shower; after, I dry myself with an embossed towel I stole - initials 'B.B.'. I pour a half carafe of lime juice. "Yuh fyured!"

So I just finished reading the Handmaid's Tale. It was a very good read but there's one thing I just don't understand. Throughout the whole novel, Offred has flashbacks of her past before Giliad and must contend with some aspects of that past, but what exactly? Also, what is the point of the flashbacks? I know it affects her character but does it really contribute the novel as a whole?

Hated this book in high school, but it's worth a reread for those like myself who might look at it from a new perspective after a while. To those who have read it - what did you think about the subtle religious imagery?

So is it generally agreed that there is no way to be 100 % sure that there is no God because his existence might be past our understanding? I mean we make fun of religiousfags who used to think that the Earth was the centre of the universe and humans were special, but surely people who 100 % deny the existence of God are kind of making the same mistake?

Partynomics 101 There always has to be that one person that goes as hard as they do for others to go hard and get equally fucked up. Now this is person can be one of two people. The glorious veteran or the first year freshmen. The difference is their alcohol tolerance and how they hold their alcohol. Occasionally you will get a college god who has the drinking ability of a veteran and the party motif of the “fun” underclassmen attitude. They are the true party and they throw them when they can … this is the typical veteran fraternity member, or that guy in high school. So all in all the life of the party is either going to be you or that guy … the only way to make the party what it is has to go hard as fuck.

In a seminar-style class, how do you know if you're coming off as overly pretentious, supremely autismal, angsty, disrespectful, etc.? The semester just started and I'm taking "Intro to Cultural Anthropology," and just about everything anyone is saying seems like total bullshit so I ask lots of questions and end up talking more than anyone else.
